Hey everyone I am new at this. I am planning on having the Sleeve surgery with Dr. Smith at Kennestone. Is anyone a patient? I have a question, was anyone scared that the surgery would not work for them? That's my worst fear.

Welcome, Alison!  I've heard great things about Dr. Smith.  I just had my sleeve on August 7, and I love it.  Check out the VSG forum on this site, and you will learn everything you need to know.  Not that I'm prejudiced or anything, HA, but the sleeve is the greatest!  (No offense, all you other folks :-)  And yes, a lot of people are afraid that they will be the only one for whom the surgery does not work.  It is virtually impossible to fail with the sleeve.  Very little, if any, hunger; sleeves are not as stretchy as RNY pouches, so don't stretch back out; can't hold much, so can't overeat, etc. etc.  You WILL succeed!    --Dorothy

Hi Alison!
I had the DS with Dr. Smith on July 3rd and I wasn't scared a bit.  My surgery ran way long and I had no problems.  I knew what to expect because Dr. Smith's program was so thorough.

I do remember being in the room after the surgery saying Oh crap what if I dont like it?  What if it doesnt work?  But over the days, I realize it does work.  I found going to group and talking with other people (which was not my thing when I began) was really helpful, especially after when you wonder what is happening to you is normal.

The short answer is we all felt this way.  hang in there.  Its worth it
