Totally Bummed
So, all was going great. Went to the Dr. on Thursday for all of the pre-op information they give you. Sat there from 8:40am until 2:30pm...went over to OCRA (hosiptal) checked in...saw the nurses (who were all fabulous!!), did my chest x-rays, blood work, blood pressure, urine, and the EKG. Well,
comes to find out every third beat of my heart is off....so I have What the EKG said "Supraventricular trigeminy". Irregular heartbeat, and the Dr. will not do the surgery until a cardiologist runs some test and gives the ok.
I'm bummed to say the least, a new future was right there in my fingertips, and now it's all on hold again...hopefully, i"ll get an ok to move forward!!??
What kind of makes me mad though...is my heart beat has always been like this!... the nurse heard my heartbeat in March, and my PCM heard it in April, but, neither said anything further about it, other than to tell me the rhythm. It was in my notes, while at the visit, it was the doctor and the EKG who have it being an issue now. Why wasn't it looked at previously if it was going to be a questionable thing??! I know the doctor is doing his job, and wants to be sure I'm healthy and all...i understand all of that...it just does not help with me being upset about it all.
OH well, I'm still pissy about it, but will update again after I know something. I have to find a cardio doc, do their tests, and go from there...
one day maybe....

Sorry about your problem. I just wanted to tell you my husband has had an irregular heart beart for years. He has had kidney surgery and total knee replacement with no problems. Of course, he has had to have cardic approvable, but he has gotten it and been through surgery just fine.
I have a T-valve abnormality, and the doctors never seem to get upset about it. I have had it for years.
Try to be patient. You know how it is sometimes you just have to play the doctor games. They are just trying to take care of us and themselves.

hi/lo/today
It's really hard to shift gears - and end up having to wait again! But better safe than sorry. In the end , the surgery is really about you and your health - so best to evaluate you thoroughly first. I may be having to undergo the same kind of tests prior to my surgery. I've had chest pain off and on (very infrequently, though) for the past several years. So far all my EKG's are normal. Will probably have a stress test done soon (it will be my second in five years) to make sure I'm ready for the surgery.
God Bless you - hope your dreams come true VERY soon!

Try to use this wait time to your advantage. Try to exercise and eat right during this period. It will make things easier after the surgery. Try to follow the "rules" now that you will need to follow after surgery.
i think my weight loss would have been a bit more successful if I had paid more attention to the 'rules.' Ask your doctor how he wants you to eat, drink, chew, exercise, etc and try to do what he says now.
I know all this is hard to take and I am not making light of your situation, but remember 'this to shall pass.'
