Hi, I am a medicare patient and have just finished my siminar with Peachtree Bariatrics. When I read your post I paniced, because Peachtree Bariatrics had originally told me that it is illegal to accept upfront payments for medicare,,,I had also called medicare and they told me that also.. So I called back today to just be sure and Peachtree bariatrics told me no upfront payment of any kind. They do ask you to sign and agreement that you will pay after the operation if for some reason medicare does not...Although if you meet medicare's criteri of 35 BMI and 1 morbitity, such as diabetic type 2, or 40.0 Bmi without complications or 100 pounds over ideal weight. So I would be really interested if you had this experience or someone told you. Now several other Bariatric Dr.s around town and in Marietta do charge that and more from their medicare patients upfront and that according to medicare is illegal. Hmmmmm!!! Trisha

OOps....So sorry Lynda..I misread your post, and thought you meant Peachtree charged that..Sooooo sorry..It was That Dr. Hixon that did that..Peachtree is the best, and I am looking forward to getting to the "I can't wait stage"......My packet should be done and in by next week.. Peace  Trisha

I was in the same fix, some of the doctors say they do, then want upfront money,$2000 or more..This is illegal under medicare.. I found Peachtree Bariatrics under Dr. Titus Duncan, and the do not do that..Their is a once a month siminar, and they just had one on Sat..It is like at the end of each month. At that time you get a packet and that gives you all your instructions..Dr. Duncan is on TV on Fox and friends every Thursday between 8 and 8:30 am... Good Luck Trisha
