Hi, All, I just saw a plastic surgeon today, and he says that I would need to pay upfront then appeal with Medicare to get reimbursed. I had hoped with my documentation of skin infections and rashes that there would be some kind of help! Has anyone had experience with this? I certainly would have a hard time coming up with $16,000 for just the first phase of the surgery! Sandy

Eek! Is the surgeon a medicare provider? Personally I'm not sure I'd do it this way, usually the insurance would be submitted first. They likely won't give you back the full amount of 16k. Usually they pay a lot less, so I would guess that's probably why they want the money upfront. Amy

Yes, he is a Medicare provider. I saw another surgeon several months ago and he said the same thing---Medicare doesn't pay the full amount. I know some folks have gotten their surgery covered by their insurance companies because they had the same skin problems I have---I just wish I could find someone who HAS gotten Medicare to pay so I would know which way to point. Thanks for your concern. Just keep your fingers crossed for me. I really need this surgery! Sandy

Yeah, I know there are some who've had it completely covered. I hope someone will reply to you with some pointer. Good luck! Amy
