Well we have finally decided that it is time to move out of NY! It is way to expensive to try and raise a family of 3 children! I have had Barrow county- Winder suggested or statham. I was wondering if anyone from my extended family here at OH can offer some advise as far as good areas and schools to look into. I really want this to work for our family! This is the first time I will ever move out of state! I am soo nervous! Please if you have any advise even about the move I would love to hear it!

I live in North Fulton - Alpharetta to be exact. I used to live up north in Delaware and took a job here in GA. I have been here for about year. It is a very nice upscaled community. Best of luck to you on your move! Emily

Hello, May I suggest Oakwood, flowery branch, Buford. As far as Schools systems, and pricing on homes. It's an up and coming area, and for me it has been a great place to raise my 3 lovelies. Dawn J

Thanks everyone for respondingto my post! I really appreciate it! In would like to move to a slower pace of life! Where family is key and everyone is fairly personable! But I would like to also be able to travel to the fast life within a decent amount of travel time for a night out,etc.. I have an 8 years old son and two daughters age 5 and 9! Nothing matters more to me than their education! I want my kids to be able to be kids! Here in NY ... the kids are "adults" way before they ever need to be! So simple and fullfilling is the way I would like to go! I really have only been to GA twice and both times I didn't get out much! Hopefully if all goes well we will be out there from DEC 19-Dec 26 or so! I am looking for a nursing position (L.P.N.) so an area where I won't have to travel too far to find employment would be nice as well! And I guess I could add to that list a million dollars too! LOL! I feel like I am asking for the world here! Thank for reading my rambles! I am so unsure of everything pertaining to GA except for the fact of wanting to move there! I have never had to start all over this way before it is very nerve wrecking! Michelle

Georgia is a great place to raise a family. There is always something to do in the local "little league" levels and you're never far from a shopping center somewhere in town. I wish you the best of luck in your move and I hope all things go well for you! Dee Dee

I live in gainesville, mostly because it's convenient for my job. However I would have chosen Buford/Flowery branch or up 85 aways (see, I've been here long enough that aways is a word!) becaus that fits my lifestyle better. A 45 mile drive into the city for fun is fine with me, and whatever your paying where your at for a house, prepare your mind to be BLOWN! That said, my best advise is to do what i did, visit the area (cheap flights) and work with a realtor who knows the lay of the land. I lucked out and got a great team of realtors, who literally educated us about the area, as well as got us a killer deal on a house. I'm happy to share that info if you want, just PM me. (Not trying to pimp them or anything, but just like my surgeons, I had to go through some bad ones to finally get one that was good, and luckily they were awesome) And theres no worse feeling than flying to a city expecting to work on finding houses and learn about the area, only to find that you've wasted a round trip ticket and hotel $$.. Not that any of the surgeons I saw were bad! You get the idea... hopefully.

Well, Looking for a job as a LPN. Cobb County has many hosp. it is a very busy, fast county. I live in Paulding which is a little east west of the city. It is down I-20. I think if you go the Georgia web site you can check school testing scores to help you. Good luck and hope you find our state as a good fit for you and your family.

There are too many people from North Georgia who will not mention the coast of Gerogia. Here is where you want to be. The hospital is hiring, we have the best in Southern Hospitality, and you can live on an island. St. Simons Island is beautifull. You would be 70 miles for Savannah and 65 miles from Jacksonville, Florida. It is not so big you will get swollowed and not so small you feel phobic. Besides we are a socialable, friendly people.
