GA State Merit--Please join me
You hit the nail on the head. Our state policies would cover a liver transplant for an alcoholic so excluding WLS is discriminatory. I would also be willing to sign a petition as this is obviously not on the "Sonny do" list. Perhaps Mark Taylor would have been more sympathetic!!!
They've also cut back on the USG policies in another way. According to last fall's plan brochure they have multiple disease management programs for things like diabetes, asthma and obesity, but when I called last month to inquire about the obesity program they had dropped that from the list--before the policy year had expired!!! They would rather pay for symptom management (GERD, HBP, etc.) than really get people the help they need. It's very shortsighted as the bypass surgery I'll probably need in 20 years will certainly not save them money.
