Gallstones?
I have been having really bad stomach pains every time I eat for the last week. I am 2 1/2 years post op - I went to the ER last week and was told I have gall stones. Does this mean I will have to have my gallbladder removed? I have an appointment with a surgeon tomorrow but I just wanted a little insight before I go!
Hi Leslie, having "been there, done that," as they say, I can tell you that having your gall bladder removed is a piece of cake compared to your original WLS, if it was open, that is. Usually, the surgery can be done laprocopically, and done as same day release surgery if not outpatient.
I had open RNY in 2001. About 8 months later, I had gall stones and have to have my gall bladder removed laproscopically. There were only two small incisions, and once I recovered from the anesthesia and was able to walk around, they sent me home the same day. I heard of others having to stay overnight, but usually just for one day so the surgeon could monitor the patient for what ever reason. Hope this helps. Just relax, no worries for you on this one. Hang in there.
