Surgery 8/28, who all needs to be there with me?
Im wondering if my husband needs to be there or if he should stay home and run things at the house since my mom is coming with me.
Anyone have suggestions on family attendance at the hospital?
Will I need someone there at all times on surgery day and night?
Right now Im asking him to stay home with the kids, of course they are grown now...18 and 15, so they wont NEED him...
but I wonder since the hospital is one hour away...what we should do....
I simply can not decide and just wondered if anyone had any pointers.
Pam,
On the day of my surgery, I drove myself to the hospital. My brother in law got there shortly after me, and that really did help calm my nerves down...that someone was with me then. He stayed until they took me back to the OR holding room. My parents are elderly, so about mid morning my sister brought my Mom to the hospital, and the two of them stayed until mid afternoon, as my Mom does not do well in Atlanta traffic. That night of surgery day, I was by myself, and did remarkably well. I had my surgery at Emory Dunwoody, and whenever I needed to get up to go walking, bathroom, etc., I just called the nurses station so that they could unhook the leg/feet compression thingies. The nurses at that hospital were great !!!!
When you are packing your bag of things to take to the hospital, dont take any nightgowns as they are constantly checking your drains, etc., but be sure to take some bedroom slippers and chapstick...I sure do wish I had had some chapstick with me.
Good luck with your surgery !!!

Pam,
One more thing...play it by ear about needing someone to stay with you that night. If you are doing well, then you might not need someone. But if not doing well, you will probably want someone with you!!!
My surgery was 06/20/2005, and I have lost a total of 114 pounds !! My present weight is 137. When I have to see my gyn, which lately it seems that I am seeing him quite often (had some surgery this past June)...anyways, he calls me 'skinny' !!! This time next year you will be on your way to being called 'skinny' !!!
Norma
You must be so excited.... 14 days to go.
I know that I will want my husband with me..... just to give me some tough love babying......
I would think it would be who you could handle being there with you.
Thanks for those letters you emailed...
I start my 6 month diet on Friday, after my trip to the nutritionist. My Endo is going to be my "Doctor" advocate. She said I was a good Canidate for WLS. WOO HOO
Good luck to you!!!
Rebecca

Great news that your journey has officially began....heads up....you dont have to start right now with the 6 months unless you are just now starting with that doctor....
I used my OB and once they told me that I needed a 6 mth diet, I immediately thought that i would start that day, but once I thought about it, we were able to back that up a few months and count when I had already seen him.
Depends on your doctor and how willing he is to help....if you need suggestions just YELL!
Im excited for you! and thanks for joining me with my countdown! 11 DAYS!
I was going to go by myself. But my mother went with me and left soon after I was in my room. I stayed there by myself that night the helicopter kept me awake. My grandmother kept my kids and let me heal for the week and the kids went to there dad's that weekend. So I got up myself when I wanted something to eat (like broth) and my water.
You'll do fine it is what you want. I did not even call anybody I just wanted to sleep.
Hugs,
Heather

I took my son and his girlfriend with me, hubby stayed home, he doesn't like hospitals, and i sure didn't want to hear his complaining the whole time, i drove to the hospital, and my 17 yr old sone drove me home 2 days later, AMC was great to them. I agree wih heather, all i wanted to do was sleep..
Good luck! you will be on the losing side in no time!
