Funny feeling

Hello, I am 9 weeks out from surgery and I have lost 55lbs to date. I am so happy with this. I can now start eating lean red meat & chicken ect... I have a question about swallowing meats. This is really for someone who is 6 mos to a year out from surgery. I get a funny "un-natural" feeling when I swallow. It doesn't hurt or anything, it just feels weird. It is so weird in fact, I don't want to eat anything. I know the un-natural feeling is due to my plumbing being rearranged so I understand that. My question is does it ever go away????? I find myself relying on Protein shakes and green beans & soups & broccoli. Is this normal and will it get better. I am chew, chew, chewing my food to death so I don't think that is it. I don't drink when I eat so that isn't it either. I'm just looking for guidance here. Thanks, Lgore

Hi Lee, Congratulations on your surgery, and your terrific weight loss! I am one year out, and I still have the funny swallowing thing. Especially with meat. I think everyone is different when it goes away, for some it never does and you just adjust, others I don't think experience this at all. Sounds to me like you are doing everything right though! Keep up the good work! Barb

This may sound weird the try adjusting the "bite" size. since our stomachs are so much smaller see if it helps by taking smaller bites and still chewing it as much (even more if you really think about it - food should still me mostly purreed before we swallow because of the lack of acid in the new stomach to break the food particles down) as you did before. That's just my thought.....if it still hurts after this adjustment ask your doctor to scope your esophagus. Dee Dee
