Shebani institute takes share of cost mcaid in Ocala. You must have met your share of cost first though( we paid for the consult and that portion went towards SOC, paid for lab work and then SOC was met.) The requirement were: letter from your PCP stating medical necessity,(office will provide you with exactly what letter needs to say) then preop tests. There is no "six month or three month" wait. First office visit was 6/3/14, surgery was scheduled for 6/30/14.

Looking forward to meeting some Florida OH pals at the Obesity Action Coalition's Your Weight Matters National Convention in Orlando in September.
If you haven't heard about it. Here's the link www.ywmconvention.com and a blog entry I did about it: http://theworldaccordingtoeggface.blogspot.com/2014/07/the-y our-weight-matters-national.html
If you are local, there's free parking at the hotel too.
Hope to see you there. ~Michelle "Shelly"
Scott, I went to Pam Bratton. I live in Daytona Beach Shores. She seemed ok. Had her 2 little dogs in the room with us. The room really had a doggie smell! What Dr are you seeing. I am having my sleeve done by Christian Birkedal late August or early Sept.

If your doctor takes straight Medicaid get approved through that. If not be sure to discover exactly what plan your surgeon accepts. I was on Humana through Medicaid & was at the point to submit to discover my surgeon was considered out of network. I changed my plan from Humana to straight Medicaid. I was approved & had surgery within the same month

There are many people, members and non-members, that come to the OH community wanting assistance to have weight loss surgery. One of the challenges many people encounter is "The Medicaid Maze" so we wanted to provide information about the difficulties for those people and from two leading bariatric surgeons.
We welcome your experiences by leaving a comment at the end of the article.
Realizing that this is an older post - but I was VERY pleased with my surgeon, Dr. Radecke from Riverside Surgical in Sebastian, FL. They are about an hour and a half drive from Orlando (where I live), but for me, the care I received from Doc and his staff was well worth the drive. I've lost almost 140 lbs in 13 months.
I am fairly sure they do revisions, as well.
Good luck!
I'm in Volusia County and working my way through the initial process as well. My Dr. recommended three that will do the consultation, though I do not know if they are covered under your insurance.
- Pamela Bratton in Port Orange
- Norman Hoffman in Ormond Beach
- Isabelle King in Ormond Beach

I have prestige heath insurance through medicaid - they required 6 months weight loss - i also had to take a nutrition class (but that might of been my surgery doctors requirement) they doctor also did a scope to make sure my stomach was okay - then they submitted it to my insurance and the insurance required i see a heart doctor and a lung doctor for clearance for the surgery - It probably depends on what insurance you have but usually i hear its 6 months weight loss - but it just depends on the insurance and sometimes differant doctors require differant stuff. I just meet with the lung and heart doctor and got their approval so now im waiting to hear if the insurance approves it - im so excited !!As far as i know prestige doesn't require anything else but the trying of weight loss - i dont have any health issues that i know of because of being over weight i know some insurance require you to have complications from the obesity .
