First check with your insurance and see if they cover weight loss surgery, and if they cover the lap band.  If they do then find a local surgeon, they usually have an information meeting where you can go get your questions answered.  Go to that meeting and they should be able to tell you your next step.

Just because two people have BCBS of Florida, it doesn't mean that their journey will be the same, with different programs, you may have an easier time or a harder time than someone else.  These insurance company change their requirements almost daily.

Good luck

Kelly girl,  I don't know about North Pinellas, but I would like to tell you about one my Fiance and I are starting in Tampa.  It will not be tied to any one surgeon or surgery type, it will be an out of the hospital active group.  We want to try to get people together to walk together, and exercise together, the place we will be meeting has a commercial kitchen we can use for WLS  friendly cooking classes.  We are looking to be more supportive and a closer group, with our Own O.H. group and Face book group, for ongoing support between live meetings.  Check us out, join and join in, either one or both the groups, and if you like I will be more than happy to let you know when our first live meeting is.

Our New O.H. group is:

there is a support group that meets once a month that is a collection of patients from Dr. Small and one other Dr. I believe that it is based out of Meese-Dunedin hospital, but they hold the meetings in the clearwater/palm harbor area certain months. I would just call the dunedin hospital for information

I have decided to have the lap band procedure. Not really sure where to go from here. I dont know if I should see a primary first or what. I dont really have any medical issues except I am too Fat!! :) My bmi is 40- I have state of florida blue cross and blue shield. Does anyone else, have BCBS and been approved so I can follow in your footsteps thru the process. I just need direction from here. I need some insight on good docs also.

Topic: Support Groups
Just wondering if anyone knows of any support groups located in Northern Pinellas? Oldsmar, Palm Harbor or Tarpon Springs would be great, my surgeon is located in St. Pete and I was wondering if any support groups were closer to where I live.

Thanks

This is the link for my surgeon's support page.  He does support groups in Ocala where his main practice is and also has one in the Orlando area.  He actually runs the support group himself.  So if you have any questions its nice that he can answer them.   Good Luck, toni

Well I will be having the surgery under Medicaid coverage. I'm not much of a sugar person, but being Cuban some of our food tends to be a little on the fatty side.  I know that once I lose the weight I will work hard to keep it off.  I have never in my life been thin, so this is something that I am looking forward to.

Taking a look at the failed weight loss pages is definitely something I am going to do. Thanks for the suggestion :)

Teresa, Do you have a surgeon yet?  If you do, you may want to see if they would recommend any.  You say you are looking in the Tampa Bay area, can you be more specific, Tampa, Brandon, Clearwater, St. Pete.; we might as well try and find one close to you.  Good Luck.
