If bariatric surgery is excluded from the policy -- it is very doubtful you will get them to budge.  If the policy is self funded through your employer you could ask your employer to approve the surgery.  When the plan is self funded the insurance company is just an administrator.

Topic: small group policy denial, HELP!!!
I have a small group policy with United Healthcare in Florida and trying to get the RNY surgery.  Has anyone gotten approval through United while having a small group policy for this surgery?  They will NOT cover anything that is weight related, even with 4 letters of medical necessity.  Has anyone found another way around this?  On my appeal, I am going to TRY (and lots of praying) to get the surgery approved by using the PCOS, diabetes, sleep apnea and GERD as the reason I need the surgery.  The seminars I have attended stated that the PCOS (based on many studies) is resolved 100% and the others are resolved at 85% or better.  Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Angie

I'm a Naples/Marco Island girl myself.  FT. Myers international airport is not far.  There are a ton of NYers here, but we're way SW, Fl.  If you like the Gulf this is the place, but if I could live on the other coast I'd love palm coast or the flagler area.
I've been on prednisone and chemo for over 7.5 years.  Gained over 160 pounds due to pred. Highest wt. 410. Surgery wt. 365. Current wt. 299
See ya,400s, 90s,80s,70s, 60s, 50s, 40s, 30s, 20s, 10s 300s!!!!

thank you for this very nice post ... it is so true.  I find that even though I weigh 138 lbs and a few lbs below goal weight, having lost 151 lbs. total, look in the mirror and still see that same fat person.  It is hard find the mind to catch up with the body but I'm getting better.  Have  a great night. Topic: Hey So. Floridians.. How about a Meet & Greet ????

Just wondering if anyone in South Florida (Palm Beach or Broward Counties) postops or preops are interested in a meet & greet to make new friends, exchange stories and maybe meet for lunch...  If anyone is interested I'd be glad to coordinate this.  Have a great evening.
