We had a great support group meeting today and with the ten people that we had there, I can only predict greater meetings and better times.  If you missed it, the next one will be Saturday August 14th.  See you there.

Donna, sometimes you have to remind the surgeon's staff that you are a customer, and their boss will not get paid if you don't get what you need.

Good luck,

Diane, I don't know how this support group is run, but most hospital or surgeon's support groups deal mostly with pre-ops, and with post-op physical issues.  Most support groups don't have time to deal with life issues.  You need to find a support group, that is more geared towards post-ops and the issues they deal with; a support group that is not going to spend half the meeting answering insurance questions.  The support group teh at Kristen and I have started is going to be that kind of support group, I'm six years post and have been involved in the weight loss surgery community for the last ten years, Kristen is three years post, and has numerous family members who have had different weight loss surgeries.  So we have seen and heard it all.  This is why we decided to start our own support group, so that we could offer more varied support.

Good luck and feel free to PM me any time, I will be willing to help you any way I can, or come to our support group meeting today.  You are also a member of our OH group, post your questions and issues there, we have many long term post-ops who have seen, heard, or done it all, and are more than willing to help.

Good luck,

Steve

You have to take charge of your life, you have to take charge of this part of your weight loss surgery journey.  Call your insurance company, verify first that they cover weight loss surgery, if they do, then get the names of surgeons in your area that accept your insurance, ( your insurance comapny has this information).  If they are giving you the wrong information, then call back and speak with a supervisor; if need be, work your way up the line until you get what you want.  Once you get the names, then go talk to the surgeons.  There are not a lot of bariatric surgeons who take medicaid, so your choices may be limited, or you may have to travel a ways to see a surgeon, some surgeons only do so many medicaid patients a year too, so you may have a longer weight; but you won't know any of this until you get through the insurance comapny first.

Remember that insurance companies do not like spending money, and will do anything to delay paying out, so be ready to fight them.  Nobody can do this except you, you have to want it bad enough to be willing to fight for it; if you give up, the insurance comapny wins.  Remember, they don't give a **** about you, your wife, or your four kids,

Good luck,
Steve

Topic: RE: financing for lap band surgery
I have not heard of any surgeons financing directly but there are different medical financing companies out there.  Your surgeon's office should be able to get you the name of a couple of them.  The surgeon's office will do what ever is neccesary to help you find financing, because without it, or insurance, you won't have surgery and they lose a client.  Call and ask for the billing or office manager.

Good luck,
Steve

Topic: RE: Getting Frustrated
Donna, insurance companies are huge and they lose papewrork all of the time,(sometimes I think on purpose, just to drag things out).  I have had to submit my paperwork two and three times over the years trying to get different things covered.  If they don't have it, then have your surgeons office resend it, certified with return receipt, and follow the package, the day they sign for it, call them and make sure someone starts looking for it.  Your surgeon's office may ***** a little about having to do things twice, but just let them know they are not going to get paid unless they do it, because until they do it, you can not have surgery.  Keep fighting, and don't let minor set backs frustrate you.

Good luck,

Steve
