Ruby, There is a lot of controversy about drinking soda or not. Most Dr.s & nutritionists say carbonation is not something good for our new pouches. It may strech them out, defeating the purpose of the entire surgery. Many patients of WLS believe it is ok to drink soda... wel,, I chose to the professionals and I believe that's something I will always have to avoid. I have so far... Vivi

Like Vivi said, Dr's have different opinions on this. I don't even remember what my Dr/Nutrionist said, but I know what I say...never ever will I have a carbonated drink again. Tracey

I agree with them, it is not worth it to drink carbonated drinks. My nutritionist said that she did an independent study of people who had failed WLS and two of the things that most of them did was drinking from straws and carbonated drinks. So my vote is no....

Ruby, My surgeon and nutritionist say no soda forever, so I have tried to avoid it. It is controversial and I dont know the true statistics behind it, but I was told it is because it creates bubbles in the stomach which takes up space that we need for food. I've also heard it is high in sodium which isnt good and that it can also stretch the pouch. All those things make some sense to me so I guess it's just best to JUST SAY NO ! Good luck

Funny, Just spoke with the dr about that yesterday. Basically flat only...I need to drink it that way to curb my nausea its the only way as I even throw up water. But they say the carbonation may stretch the pouch but it also causes gas, bloating and belly pain too.

Hi Ruby, After what I went through to get my surgery, I don't want to eat or drink anything that has even the most remote possibility of messing up my doc's good work. I *love* Coca-Cola, but will never have one again, flat or not. Kristen
