Help please with nausea.
I am about a month past surgery and lately it seems I am making poor food choices or portion sizes. I have been nauseaous quite a bit. Not enough to be a problem for my doctor but enough to be one for me. I am trying to find what foods agree and what doesn't but until then do any of you have any advice on what works or doesn't to keep from feeling nausea. Any help appreciated.
Hi Steve,
I can relate! I am 2.5 months out and I thought that I was getting a stricture. It turns out that I was getting a little too bold on my food choices and portions as well. My doc put me on a liquid 4x per day which is healing me from the inside. I have been vomit and nausea free for almost a week!!
For nausea, I find that Constant Comment orange spice herb tea works for me. I add a packet of Splenda and some milk, and sip. The warmth of the tea almost magically keeps my nausea at bay.
I hope that you feel better!

Steve, when I was three and four weeks out I had extreme nausea, to the point where I could hardly function. I went in to see Dr. Nye and he put me on a different acid pill, protonix. He had me take it twice a day for five days then go to once a day. But, on my own I also went back to some beginning foods. So, I think a combination of the both of them helped after about a week. Hope you feel better soon.

One thing I forgot Steve, I also instead of eating 3 times a day I started just taking a bite of something every so often. It seemed like keeping something in my pouch helped with the nausea some. I know that I posted for help with nausea when I had it and a lot of people gave me good suggestions, but I had to find what worked for me. I guess everyone is different. I do hope you find something to work for you soon because I know how miserable you are.

Steve,
Make sure you are following the rules set my your doctor/nutritionist especially these first few months since your pouch is healing and that takes time. I know it is very easy to want to push limits with food especially when you are feeling so good, but those directives are important for the healing process. As far as your diet goes. again I would recommend you speak to your doctor and see what they think before you start doing anything different than what is suggested by them.
I hope you are feeling better soon.

Steve, I went through similar issues. Stick with liquids and light foods. Don't try anything solid right now (in case that is what you are doing). Try some mylanta for gas and nausea. It tastes like crap but it helps coat the stomach and also helps if you have any gas pains, which can sometimes cause nausea.
Whatever you do, keep sipping your liquids so you don't get dehydrated. That can also cause nausea.
Lastly, write down what you are eating and then write comments next to it as to how you feel when you eat it. This can help you determine what foods are the cause to you feeling bad. If you find nearly everything bothers you, check back with your doctor or seek a nutritionist who specializes in bariatric nutrition. He/She should be able to help.
Oh I also find that phenergan helps with the nausea. You have to get a prescription for it though.
I hope you feel better soon!
