Help Please! Voc Rehab

Hello I need help... I called 2 different offices in Tampa and i explained to them my situation and they told me that they don't cover this surgery. I don't know what else to do, because my insurance has an exclusion, and i can't afford to self-pay now. I need to hear from all voc rehab members who has got the surgery done from them. Please tell me how you got them to pay for this surgery. Thanks Amber

Amber, I have not had the surgery done yet but I am going through voc rehab. I have jumped through lots of hoops and still jumping. The first thing when you call them did they ask you a bunch of questions? I know you have to have or show that your weight is either effecting your work or your going to lose employment or do you have any other disablitiy? I have fractured my ankle almost 2 years ago and it will not heal right due to my weight. I know my paper work is being send to tallahasse. I kinda hope it is already there but I am praying and praying that I hear soon that it has been approved!!! I wish you luck in your journey and no matter what the road block don't give up!!! Linda R

do you have co-morbs? is your job physical? does your weight make it hard for you to do your job? thats how i got them to pay for my surgery - no tricks involved. i weighed 296lbs and worked at a childrens recreation facility - i had high blood pressure and border-line diabetes.when i made the initial phone call to voc rehab i let them know that my weight was making it very difficult to do my job and my insur. had turned me down twice - they understood the problem and apparently realized that i could eventually be on disability if they did not step in to do something - and from my understanding, this is what the program is all about - it is a government program that is designed to help people overcome thier disabilities so that they can become or remain employed - my conselor told me that voc rehab works the same throughout florida - if the offices that you have called are telling you something different, then try calling the main office in tallahassee and get the correct answers.

Hi, First of all you called them and ask. You call and set an appointment for there services. Don't ask about the surgery. I had it done through Voc Rehab. E-mail me and I will give you my number. We can talk. Sherri
