Hi everyone. I am really needing some help with ideas for protein. I'm trying to figure out how to get enough in and it is hard. I'm not sure what to eat. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Wanda

hi Wanda I havent had my surgery yet but I have asked the same question. Some peeps told me to have sugar free pop cicles, carnation instant breakfast, sigar free jell0, champion's stacked whey protein, broth fat free, multi vitamines chewable like flinstones

What type of diet are you on? Liquid, pureed, or soft foods?

I agree with them! Cottage cheese is a great source of protein...to change it up a little mix it with some SF lime jello (prepared w/ water) then let it gel. If you are allowed fruit you may add crushed pineapple in it's own juice, drained. (if you add the pineapple, only use the ho****er required for the jello, don't add the cold.)

Hi Wanda! You didn't mention what stage you are in but, I'm in Soft foods stage and eat the following: scrambled eggs, Fat Free refried beans, cheese, 1/2 veggie burger or veggie chicken, yogurt, reduced fat sandwich meat... I also use unflavored Unjury protein (20 grams protein) mixed in Carb Count down chocolate milk (12 grams protein) or mixed in with propel/crystal lite/soups/pudding ect... Hope this helps Good luck, Dru

I am going to assume you are on soft foods since you are almost 1 month out. I would suggest eating egg salad, tuna or chicken salad, refried beans with cheese, chili, scrambled eggs or any form of eggs, cottage cheese, ricotta cheese mixed with a little spaghetti sauce, all these are good ways to get in protein before moving to solids.

Amy, I had the ricotta with sauce last night while my family piged out on pasta, homemade meatballs and sausage and oooh it was good. thanks for the tip!

Ground turkey with spaghetti sauce, yogurt, low fat cream cheese on saltines, veggie burgers with low fat ranch dressing, tuna salad, egg salad, chicken salad (all made with low fat mayo). Baked fish is also good. Just be sure you drink atleast 1 protein drink a day. Usually they will give you close to half of what you need per day in protein. It helps a lot.

The baked fish is an excellend idea...Tilapia has seemed to be the softest that I have cooked, and I've darn near cooked 'em all...LOL (i bake the tilapia with that new carb options alfredo sauce and creole seasoning, but it's also excellent with grapefruit juice and garlic salt) I am pre-op, but have been on the "practice diet" that the Wish Center sets you up on prior to surgery. Another good way I get my protein in is cheeseheads string cheeses, publix natural peanut butter from the deli, and you might wanna try dipping a sf popsicle into a protein powder mix...i like the cherry pops with a vanilla protein shake powder... -Phoenix

I know it sounds weird, but Progresso's Split Pea (only) soup. One can has two servings, each serving is 10 grams of protein. I am still having a hard time getting solids down but this was easy. I opened a can in the morning and nibbled. Kristen
