I am a WLS patient. I am 1 1/2 year post op. I have lost 140 pounds. About 8 months ago I started really viewing my oldest daughters abuse with food and how obese she was becoming. Well I talked with her about it and she said she doesn't have a problem with her weight. She is only 16 and she is wearing a size 18. So i took a step back because everyone here was saying she will tell you when she is ready to attack this obese thing. Well last night she said she wants to go on a diet. WHAT DO I DO TO HELP HER? We live in Ft Lauderdale FL and I want to help her. I told we will go on a diet together. Do anyone know of programs to help her learn how to eat heathier that will not cost a single mother money. Please help.

Is she covered under any medical insurance plan? If she is, both of you can talk to her pediatrician or whatever dr. she sees. Ask for nutrition / diet info and if it is covered by insurance, ask for a referral to a dietician. One of the best things you can do for her is to keep the junk/snack foods out & only keep the healthy foods in the house. The other gift you can give her is to set a good example. This will be good for you as well. Good luck to you both! Vickie J.

HI Antoinette, there is a program called T.O.P.S (takeing off pounds sensibly) alot of churches host this program...ask around I am sure you could find one in your area and they usually don't cost anything. Hope this helps you out. April

Weigh****chers is an excellent program for teaching eating habits. I believe they also offer reduced rates for children. Call them and ask, I also know that when I went before there were mothers there who attended with their overweight children. Before you do any program, I would discuss it all with your PCP and see what they suggest. Good luck to her and congrats on your success
