GoLytely Bowl Prep?

Hi All, I am currently in school and preparing to have surgery Friday, Sept 24th. The day before I have taken a half day off from work so I can start the GoLytely. My problem is that I have a class that night - from 5:30 to 6:45. If I start the golytely at noon - will I be "done" by 5:30. Even if I'm done drinking the funk, is it safe to travel outside of my home? I guess I should also mention my phobia of public restrooms - but I guess they are an option? I have not heard what type of havoc this stuff causes? All help will be much appreciated! Best wishes, Deeann

HI Deann, The instructions Dr. Haicken gives is to take between 9am and 2pm. This is so you will 'stop going" by bedtime. If you wait until noon to start I am afraid you may be "indisposed" all afternoon and most of the evening. I am having surgery with Dr. H on the 17th and have decided to take the whole day off before surgery per his recommendation. Good luck to you!! Julie

No Julie - Don't tell me that! It's been so long since I had my consult with Dr. H - I thought you started it at noon! That stinks - My problem is I'm just running out of time off from work. Guess I'll just have to take it off. I doubt I'll be able to sleep the night before, so maybe I'll discuss starting a little late with Chris when I go for my pre-op?! They will probably think Im insane! Anyways - thanks for the info. And good luck to you! I had hoped to be scheduled on the same day as you, but I got pushed back a week. My date is on my grandfather's birthday (deceased) so I guess it was meant to be. Thanks again and keep me posted on your recovery! Deeann

So Sorry Deann, I too am tight on paid tiime off, but it's worth it all. Fortunately I had signed up for short term disability at work so that kicks in immmediately. Too bad they couldn't schedule you on the same day. I plan on being at the next Saturday Bypass Buddies. Hope to see you there. Julie

Deann, I took mine mid-morning and by late afternoon, I felt fine. I hadnt eaten much the day before and didnt eat much that day either. Just drank a lot of water to stay hydrated. I thought it would be much worse than it was in reality. Good luck

Deeann, I'm a pre-op but I've been told that my surgeon does not require a bowel prep, thank goodness. However, I've had to do that twice for other procedures and my advice is to stay home! I've known other folks that were "done" in 3-4 hours, but for me, I was still running for the potty long after I'd finished drinking the stuff. It is like everything else that concerns our bodies, different folks react differently. Good luck with your surgery. Vickie J.

Deeann, I took it at 9:00 a.m. and at 5:30 went to a closing, to sell our house. So I was fine. If I had taken it at noon, I probably would not have been. It has a lot to do with what's in your system also, one patient said she did a liquid diet the day before, and she was cleaned out in no time at all. Good luck. Dr. H. rocks.

Thanks Steve! By the way - your pictures look great! I guess it is a decision I will put off until closer to that time. Take the time off from work or school. Thanks for the info - I too thought a liquid diet would make it much easier. I read one lady's profile - she did her last meal followed by the prep. Bad idea I guess! Thanks again, Deeann
