When did everyone start eatting??
Hello to all
What is this I hear everyone eating just after a few weeks after surgery?? My doctor has me on those Dang protein shakes for the first 8 weeks then slowly starts me on different foods none of which I have heard anyone mention here. I am not hungry, don't get me wrong but I sure cant stand those protein shakes and fell like I am on a liquid diet all the time? How am I to get my protein?? Got any ideas please pass them on my way
However, when did everyone start eating? Just wondering how different everyone is.
Thanks and as always ~ Take care ~Robin

I also had Dr Szomestein. He is the best. I am almost 1 yr post op and have hit my goal. I have lost 130lbs. He had me on liquid for the first 2 weeks. When I went to have my stiches out he said I could start the soft food stage. I did not have my gallbladder take out. Did you? Maybe that is why you are on liquids longer? Sorry I can't really answer your question, but you may want to ask again when you get your stiches out. Just to clarify that it is 8 weeks on the liquid diet. Hang in there is does get better.

Hello, they're again... No, I didn't have my gallbladder taken out. I just am following the orders from him. I am home now which is over 600 miles from him and I am going today to get the staples out. I am going to place a call to the nutritionist, maybe she can shed some light on the situation.. What did you eat when you did start eating??
Thanks for the reply ~ Robin

Hey Girlie!
Boy, 8 weeks is aggressive, but I guess he knows what's best for his patients. Hang in there, I know it isnt easy but you will feel so proud when those 8 weeks is over and you have that sense of accomplishment. The only suggestions I have for you with getting more protein in would be to add some dry skim milk to regular skim or 1% milk to up the protein, you can use that in SF Carnation instant breakfast or drink it alone and you can try the unflavored protein powder. I've heard good things about Unjury, and they sell samples on their website. I also think GNC sells an unflavored protein powder. I just ordered some Unjury samples last week, so I dont have any experience to share but I am going to try it with crystal light or the new Hood low carb juices. Good luck, Robin!

Robin, every surgeon has his own plan, and some even vary that patient to patient. I have to assume that you have full trust in your surgeon, please do as your surgeon says, follow his diet plan, because if you have any complications, he's the one you are going to go back to, it dosen't matter when or what I was able to eat, because, I followed my surgeon's diet, and if I had any problems, it would be him, I would being going back to. Good luck, and keep your chin up.

Hiya Robin,
Wow 8wks is pretty crucial. I am going on 5wks out and am often hungry now, so I don't know if I could have done the 8wks liquid thing. I was on puree for 2wks post-op and now I am "supposed" to be on all protein.
I don't tolerate alot of meat well still, but lots of other stuff I do really well with. I do eat carbs, but in moderation. I also eat some fruit. My new found love is soup and eat that most often.
I also had my gallbladder taken out, so I dont think that would have anything to do with the amount of time you have to be on liquids. Perhaps you can speak to the nutritionist. I would also like to know why 8wks. Good Luck and God Bless.
MICHELLE.
robin,
Day 1, and 2--clear liquids
Day 3 start puree. for 2 weeks
week 3-soft foods. Until present, slowing adding new foods ie..... different meats, veggies and fruits. Carbs only from veggies and fruits.
Protein shakes with fat-free milk are the the best way. With water they taste like dirt!!! I use Unjury Protein Powder, choc.. good luck, margaret
