Question of the Day
With the two hurricanes lurking so close to Florida, how many of you are prepared for a potential hurricane? I used to be so diligent about having a hurricane emergency kit, but I think I ate the canned goods out of it last year and used some of the batteries the last time the remote died so I'm back to square one now. Although, I do have enough water and protein bars to last me at least a month
I'll hit the store later today if the path is on the same track this afternoon.
Good luck, everyone and stay safe

Good morning!
I guess I am kinda like you, Amy. As time goes by, we end up using all the "supplies" I buy for these Hurricanes. I went out yesterday and bought some supplies "in case".
Gotta a little story about being prepared: When my daughters were 4&5 years old, we were alert about hurricanes like everyone else.
Through the season that year "Opal" was the big story. We lost the roof off our barn and many trees in the area were chopped off about 10 feet up. We didn't realize what an impact that storm had on them until months later. During a cleaning of their room. I found little tin boxes hidden in the closet.
Each were filled with handful of cereal, bubble gum, a candy bar and wet wipes. I asked the girls about them. They told me they were their "hurricane kits". Each time we heard of a storm, they would pack another one. They also had glasses of water under their beds. NOW they were ready for the storms.
Now they are teens and all they can think of is Hurricane PARTIES!!!!!!!
Things do change.

Good Morning Amy,
Omar and I are pretty well prepared. We have flashlights, candles, gas in car. We got some water yesterday. We both have been thru hurricanes before (Omar=Andrew, myself=Hugo) so we know what has to be done beforehand.
I hope everyone out there stays safe and takes all the precautions needed.
Sincerely,
Dawn in Orlando
Pre-op

I'm not particularly prepared, but then again, I live inland, so I'm not too concerned about either of these storms. One is in the panhandle which is way north of me and the other is slated to hit between Tampa and the Keys which is way south of me. Any hurricane that hits anywhere near Ocala is just a tropical storm by the time it gets here!
I do wish those who are in the direct path the best of luck and lots of safety!!

Thank god my father is obessive complusive or anal retentive, whatever you call it and we live with him. He went to the store yesterday and we are shocked up with water for over a week, which is normal. But he just had to get more Sprite...now we have about 15, 2 liter bottles. All the cans are in the pantry all in nice rows with the labels that certain way. He also buys batteries everytime he shops anyways so we are always prepared. As we speak he is collecting flashlights, so he can put 1 in each room of the house. Yesterday, all the outdoor stuff was taken care of...chairs tossed in the pool and everything else tied down. I am shocked we don't have boards up over the sliding glass doors....I could suggest it and it would be done in a few hours...hmmm I don't think I will do that.
He did go out this morning already and said he will not go out again, cuz all the crazy people are out there at the stores buying everything up and putting things in the wrong places.

Amy,my wife and I have lived in Florida all our lives, we have seen hurricanes come on go by us so many times, were numb to them. I think one will have to drop righ ton top of us for us to worry about them. We did pick up a few things, but if this one misses us, it will be gone before the next one comes by. WE don't stock up.
I shopped yesterday -- mainly water and paper goods. Bought some fresh D batteries for the radio/Port TV,etc. Got some extra alcohol and peroxide for the RX cabinet. Food? Good ole PB & crackers, and "instant" stuff. This morning I cleared all the furniture and potted plants from the pool area. I'll get the cars gassed up this evening. The traffic on US 1 is heavy but steady...... All the tourists leaving the Keys. Charlie is now Category 2. Looks like the Miami area will be spared this time. Today is beautiful. Enjoyed a nice 6 mile walk this morning and will go for a bike ride late afternoon. Good luck to all those in the Tampa Bay area. LuvitsunnyV
