How about crackers?

I have noticed when someone tells about what they are eating during the early weeks post op, they usually mention tuna salad and crackers. I was just wondering what kind of crackers most use. Are we talking saltines or like Triscuits? Do they need to dissolve easily or what? Also, what about bread. I have read that toast comes in later but does it seem to matter whether white or wheat.? I guess I woke up under a question mark this morning. By the way, GOOD SUNDAY MORNING!! Carol

Saltines, they break down easily. Triscuits are way too fiberous, I wouldnt risk trying to eat those for a long time. I havent tried bread yet because its just too many carbs versus stuff my body needs to even make it worthwhile trying to eat it. Maybe later. Michele minus 23 lbs

Carol, Saltines seem to be OK for many post-ops. However, I wouldnt try them until you are off liquids and in the pureed/soft foods phase. I didnt start to eat them until about 4 weeks out and I have a few with soup for lunch almost every day during my work week. As far as bread goes, I still cant eat it yet and I am almost 9 weeks out. It is too heavy on my pouch and makes me sick. I havent tried it again in a while because I was so miserable the last time. I would suggest whole grain breads versus white bread. Cutting back on bleached flour, sugar, preservatives, processed foods, etc will make your new lifestyle even healthier. Try to make as many healthy choices as you can now that you have the gift of surgery. Keep in mind, surgery is only a tool. It cant help us with fighting temptation, making better choices or dealing with head hunger, we need to use our god-given smarts for those. Good luck Amy

Carol, remember the white rule,if it's white stay away from it. White crackers have nothing for you, no protein, just carbs and calories, same thing with white bread. As it is, I can't eat white bread anyway, it gets to my stomach and just expands and makes me sick. The longer you can go without any breads or crackers the better. Your weight wil come off faster if you stay away from these things. When you finally have to have breads and cracker, go whole wheat, it's so much better for you.

Hi Carol, I like to eat tuna fish on melba toasts. They seem to break down really easy and I usually buy the whole wheat ones. Bread makes me ill so I stay away from it. Hope this helps!!!! Christine
