You've all been so helpful in responding to my first post this morning and really just very kind as well. I guess maybe I've gotten so used to people responding to me poorly based on how I look that it catches me off guard to stumble into some folks who are just decent folks. I've received some good advice and I want to thank you. I am less depressed today than I have been in a while. Turns out though that maybe I'm even more of an idiot than I realized and coming from a man who once had to go to the ER to get a $20 bill dislodged from my sinus cavity, that's saying something. I had no idea for instance that getting bypass surgery was such a complex pre-op deal. I thought you just get a good insurance plan, schedule an appointment or two with your pcp and then get scheduled for surgery. I'm reading about psych evals and sleep studies and all sorts of stuff I'd never even heard of before today! Could I ask a few of you to maybe list everything that will be required of me before the surgery -- specific clearances, tests, documentation -- just a list of what I need to be ready for? This thing obviously takes place in steps, so could some kind soul or three please illustrate said steps so that I can waive my new list at God and holler, "Hey, I'm too fat to move, will Ya make this happen for me down here!?!?!?" I know that this is pretty fundamental stuff for most of you, but for me it's all brand new and I really need this. THANK YOU ALL and God bless! Dana

Dana, Your right this does take steps and it seems like alot of overwhelming steps at times but keep your eye on your goal and never give up. First step go to primary care giver and speak to them about this surgery tell them all the diets you have tryed. The faster you get this done the better then the journey begins. Most insurances require a 6 - 12 month medically supervised diet so start with first appointment with pcp. Once there your pcp should tell you what surgeon accepts your insurance. Once you find out what surgeon is covered then go to one of there support/ info meetings. This will help you out line steps from here every doctor requires testing some diffrent then others Physic eval, cardiac clearence, pumonary clearence(sleep study) GI eval, nutrition consult, I am pre op and just going through testing so not sure if this is all or not but it gives you some of a better understanding. Have you got a PCP yet or still looking for insurance at this point? I pray that you can find answers to your quest and that you find the road smooth ahead! Take care Linda R
