Should I consider DS over RNY-?
Hi Guys:
I have just recently started considering having the DS rather than the RNY. It seems that everyone is so happy with the DS and no more problems than one would expect from the RNY (maybe even less)
Anyone out there have any words of wisdone for me on this subject.
Anyone wish they had some other surgery instead of what you had-?
I'm going to have to self-pay because of my insurance, so I am considering having it done in Mexico or Europe, or wherever I can get it done for less.
Thanks,
Ray B.
Ray,
You won't find a lot of answers to this here. I've never seen another person who's had, or is planning to have, a DS on this board. My insurance company will pay for an RNY, and I can even have an RNY free and without insurance hassle through the VA, but I feel so strongly about the DS that I am currently fighting my insurance company (they say, incorrectly, that the DS is experimental) and will go into debt to pay for my DS if I lose.
I'm pre-op but have been researching and reading the DS boards and Yahoo groups for almost two years now. I believe in being fully informed before making such a life-changing decision, so I'm happy to answer any and all questions. Also, a great resourse for information is duodenalswitch.com (with the www. in front, of course), and there are a number of Yahoo groups dedicated to the DS. Feel free to email me ([email protected]) if you have any specific questions I can answer.
