Congrats on the job! Miami is such a big city, I am sure you will find a nice place quickly. I have had friends who lived in Miami Beach, Coral Gables and Kendall. Staying on campus will allow you to get to know the areas better, plus you can check out crime rates, traffic patterns, etc.
Several years ago, I was in an executive training program that put us all up in a condo on Miami Beach for six weeks, that was awesome. I bet I would have even enjoyed it more had I been thin back then. But I have a few good stories to tell and some fun memories. Rush hour traffic and parking downtown was a nightmare, but that is pretty much the case anywhere now. But I loved the restaurants, nightlife, shopping and being right on the beach. Of course since then, I've sold out and live in the 'burbs of Orlando and probably would go nuts down there for more than a week. I'm just getting old
BTW, there is a wonderful vegetarian restaurant down there called Granny Feelgood's. I loved going there to eat even though I am a meat eater.
Good luck
Amy
