BC/BS FL PPO -- Lapband
Jackie, I applied for lapband last year through BCBSPPO. I was denied. Their approach was, it is experimental and they would not approve. They even sent a doctor to review the procedure with the surgeon. Still would not approved. I did not want to appeal, as you get 3 tries and you are "out" as far as insurance companies are concerned. Lapband is also view by BCBS PPO as less effective, or the procedure is not a commitment as other types of gastric bypass. This is what I was able to ascertain from BCBS. Now they are considering not covering any WLS after 12/31/04. Hope this has helped.
Marla
Thanks Marla for the info. I am going to be submitting my paperwork to them for the band in August if all goes well. I will be done with my 6 month diet 7/12/04 and will try to get all the other requirements completed by then as well. Hopefully, if they only deny on the "experimental" aspect, I can Inamed (the band mfg) on board to help me appeal. I've got my self-pay money saved, but hate to part with it if I don't have to. Good luck to you with your continued WL success.
