Wow. I am so sorry you had such a bad experience with the doctor. I have seen both Dr. Shobani and Dr. Jawad for different things and they have always been wonderful. I am so sorry that he treated you so poorly!

I wish you all the best of luck on your journey!

Please keep us posted!

Hugs,

Just wanted to add that my doctor is Dr. Jawad as well.  I have not seen Dr. Shobani though.  Everyone in the office has been great though.  I honestly could not imagine Dr. Jawad being mean though.

If it's any help, I have heard wonderul things about Dr. Murr.  In fact, he was recommended by a top WLS in Chicago when I was moving down to FL, but at the time my insurance wouldn't cover it.  I know $750 sounds like a lot, but you can do it.  It will totally change your life.  If I weren't sick and on medicare I would give you the money myself.  I wish I had it to give it to you.
I've been on prednisone and chemo for over 7.5 years.  Gained over 160 pounds due to pred. Highest wt. 410. Surgery wt. 365. Current wt. 299
See ya,400s, 90s,80s,70s, 60s, 50s, 40s, 30s, 20s, 10s 300s!!!!

Hi Judith:

The doctor you mentioned in Tampa, was that Dr. Murr at the Bariatric Institute or one of his colleagues? If so, he's worth every penny of the $750.  He's going to be doing my surgery in late May, early June.  I have a friend who has had a RNY done by him and she's done great! I have another friend who is waiting to have the surgery and doesn't have the admin fee, so we are probably going to do a multi friend garage sale to try and raise the money for her. When you think about it, $750 isn't really all that much and he charges the lowest admin fee I've found. Also. consider his background (one of the leading bariatric specialists around)!!  Talk to your friends and try to come up with a sponsored fundraiser of some kind.  Garage sales are the best for that kind of money :)  Good luck in your journey!

yes it is dr murr. I know it is very much worth the 750 its not that much more than the others, I paid 500 for Kim and the one in miami is 600 so its not that bad, and i have heard he is an excellent doctor so i know its worth it. so im deff trying my hardest to come up with the cash...

I know Dr. Murr will do your surgery.  When I went to his initial meeting there were over 50 people there.  Some were in the 600-700 pound range and they were scheduled to get surgery by Dr. Murr.

I went to Dr. Bass since  I live in Naples and it's much easier for me, but if Dr. Bass wasn't going to be in Naples I would have for sure gone to Dr. Murr.   I paid $750 up front as well.  If you have diabetes then your nutritionist should be covered as well.  Oh, and as far as the psych evaluation goes...ask your doc's office to find one that takes medicaid.  They are out there.  I had one done by a really nice doc that took medicare.  In Naples noooo doctor takes medicare (psychs) but this one did.

Best of luck

Hey you...

Just checking in to see how your appointment with the MD in Miami went!  Let me know if I can be of any help to you. I am a Florida medicaid case manager.  I can give you phone numbers, etc to AHCA and structured requirements on what you need to do prior to getting your surgery approved.  Medicaid does require a 12 month nutritional counseling period.  That isn't to say that you have to lose 100 pounds before you have surgery but that is to say that you need to have 12 solid months of seeing a nutritionist (on record).  Do you have that already???
