I know there are no stupid questions, only stupid people that don't ask the question. I am on Wellburten (sp). It is a large round pill. I have been reading about taking vits and etc. Well it accured to me, light came on! How about other meds I take, will they just sit in the pouch for hours? How will they digest? Can they be crushed? Food is not digested and sent to feed the body until it reaches the intestines. So what about pills? I also take xanax, which most of the time I let melt in the mouth, acts much faster. Taste is UGH!!!! Post-Ops....Help!!! Marla

Congrads on your date. I am excited for you. I also had medicine in tablet form. In the hospital they crushed it and put it in my g tube. At home had to chew to powder. I would ask before about seeing if your meds came in a liquid form. Sometimes they do. Best to you. tina

Tina, Thanks for the information. I will speak with my Psych about crushing them, will it make a difference and etc. The BP ones I hope to be off soon after surgery. Bextra I will continue until I have lost most of my weight, or until such time as doc says I can throw them away. Nexium, wont need after surgery. Few more, but will wait and speak with my PCP. A g-tube?????? Dont think I want one of those! Marla

Marla, I had many pills that I am to take on a daily basis. I had a g-tube for a month, so I simply crushed them up and sent them down the tube! It had to be flushed once a day anyway - then I didn't have to taste them! After the g-tube and before I could swallow them whole - I mashed them up and mixed with applesauce or low-carb yogurt. If you sprinkle them on the yogurt and then top a layer of yogurt on top of the mashed up pills and you won't even taste them! It made taking the pills SO much easier! Good Luck! Barbie, Guess I skiped chapter on g-tube? It sounds like something I dont want. Now if I could wear a g-string.....! not the same thing... perhaps one day....! I will follow your advise. Also will check with my psych on effects of crushing...most of the others I hope to be off soon after surgery, BP, Gurd and etc.... Marla

Marla, Some surgeons insert a G-tube that drains excess bile and fluids from your old stomach for 2 weeks to a month after surgery. It helps with the nausea some patients experience after surgery. They put a plug in the end of it when you go home and you have to drain off the yucky stuff yourself into a cup. Erika L

Marla, I had the NG tube (thru my nose) will in the hospital. It is more of a hassle than painful. They inserted it while in surgery and once I passed my leak test the morning I was being released, it was removed. I have a runny nose and some congestion in my throat from it but the doctor told my sister that if they didnt insert that then I would be vomiting all the "crud" and I can assure you, I am too sore to cough, sneeze, laugh so I know I couldn't handle vomiting. I think if you have Lap, you have a tube out your tummy for a while, since I was Open, mine was the nasal kind. Better ask your doc about that so you aren't surprised too much. Amy
