Referral to surgeon

My PCP submitted a request for authorization to refer me to a surgeon for consultation. The insurance has approved the consultation and the surgeon's office is supposed to call me with an appointment. If the consult was authorized, do you think that means the surgery will be approved? I know y'all aren't genies, I was just wondering what your experience has been. Is it from the surgeon that I will be asked for a record of supervised diet attempts, etc.?

Suzanne, the insurance will approve a consult to the surgeon, but that's a FAR cry from approving the surgery. Seeing the surgeon the first time is just the beginning of the road. I'm just starting down this very road myself, so we can compare notes as we go!! ~Jan
