Struggling with Doctors
I have been talking about surgery since October 2003. My husband and I want to have it done together. We didn't get to talk with dietician and psychologist till December. Both said we would be good candidates. Finally spoke with a gatro guy in May 2004. Said we were both good candidates. But he was concerned with me because I have Obsessive Complusive Personality Disorder. Set me back to psychologist. He wanted me to wait 2-3 more months. We had a very heated discussion, heck a fight. I got very quiet and left saying I would see him in the fall. I received a letter from him this weekend saying he spoke with the other doctors and now none of them will recommend me for surgery. Help! What can I do?

I don't know if this will help, but you could try to find a different surgeon and have a psych evaluation from the doc that they recommend. It could be that you and the psychologist who evaluated you just had a personality conflict. If you get turned down again, try to find out what treatments or therapy they would recommend you try to get you prepared emotionally for the surgery. Best of luck...
Hang in there,

You're So welcome, anytime! I totally understand!!! Vocational Rehab sent me to a psych evaluation and the doctor started complaining that it was disabled people like me who made her taxes so high! She suggested that I sell my car, because tax payers like her supported me and would resent me spending money on it's upkeep!!!
My Voc Rehab counselor said that I must have misunderstood her, because she was highly respected.
Needless to say, I went to her supervisor and demanded a new doctor. Hang in there!
God Bless,
Erika L

I am sorry for your troubles... Heck I think we all have a crazy
side somewhere within us. So am I to understand now your Gastric Bypass doc won't allow you or just the psychologist? If its just the psychologist, find another one and go from there, only talk about the surgery.. If the Gastric doc said no then definitely go find another doctor. Some doctors do not understand that the life we live being obese makes us crazy, at lease it has mine to a degree. I wish you guys luck and don't
give up.. Take care and let us know how it turns out

Mary Jo,
I think that I would just start over again. I would find a new doctor, let him send you to his psychologist and not even mention that you've been elsewhere. For me, I wouldn't want to have anyone perform surgery on me who already has a bias against me for any reason. If it turns out that there are some issues to resolve, then do what you need to. One way or another, it will all turn out fine.
Good luck with it all and keep us updated.
