Well I just received the dreaded call here at work. Vocational Rehab DENIED my surgery. The reason that they gave was that there was not enough doctor supervised diet information. They are telling me that I can either get the info from my dr or I can do a years worth of Dr supervised diet and then re apply. I am crushed right now and don't know what to do. Please keep me in your prayers.

If I have learned anything from this site - It is this. Do not give up. If one door shuts, another one opens. It is VERY discouraging, I know. I can only imagine right now. But You've come this far already. This little problem is only for " Right Now ". If I were to swear by it - maybe at this point in time it was not meant to be. But that doesnt mean that you wont be approved next month ! If the insurance wants to play games..lets give them a run for their filthy stinking money ! You will overcome this. Take the beating but just for today ( & just for this moment) . Do not dwell on it even though it sucks. We will start again and figure out something different ! Keep that Chin up Girl ! I am seeing an appeal letter !! All of my love and prayers ! Sabrina

I am getting my surgery done through Voc Rehab. I too had to show proof of dieting. If you don't have it then ask them to help you get the help you need. They will provide a supervised diet program. Then next year re-apply or appeal. do you have the handbook? You can also ask for a copy of the guidelines pertaining to wls. That is open records and can be obtained anywhere. That is not giving up. It is playing their game. Remember people look at you as to making the wrong choices in life. What do they really know. Sherri

Spring, Don't give up. No doesn't mean No at all, It just means not now. So you've had a set back. Get back on your feet and get the stuff you need done! Keep your head up and reapply when the time comes. Good Luck w/ everything! Michelle

I did not have that either. But my doctor copied his complete file that showed my weight going up and down and they accepted it. you might want to ask that to do be done.

Don't give up!!! TO be honest, my doctor did not get into specific weight loss diets in the letter he wrote, and I still got approved. The letter my doctor wrote for my ins. co basically emphasized that I tried several diets, and they did not succeed. He also wrote in the letter his concerns for my future health. It is also a good idea to have documentation of all the tests and specialists that you have seen. I am not sure what ins. carrier you have. I have BCBS. Good Luck w/everything.

My heart goes out to you. Try to get your Dr to write a letter of necessity and get copies of office visits that have weights and if he has talked to you about weight loss and it is documented try and send those in with a list of all the diets and excercise programs you have tried. Also if you have any other Doctors you have seen in the past that have adviced you to loose weight ask them to put it in writing. It's worth a try. Good luck. Sonia

I'm so sorry about your news, but don't give up. I too was denied and didn't know I could even appeal until I came to this sight. The people here are wonderful, very supportive, and very informed about just about every cir****tance. As most of them have encountered every situtation you could imagine. I just had my blood work done (requested it from my PCP) I go today for the results. Now I will offically know what I have suspected for years. My body is out of wac****ep the faith. I was advised to call my insurance carrier by someone here about an appeal, and you know what they were right. I learned quite a bit about what the rules are and how medically necessary dose not always include a supervised diet regimen. Call your insurance provider and aske them to send you (I had them fax it to me and they did) the rules on what is medically needed for this surgery. You may qualify in other areas and can create letters for your doctors to sign supporting your request for this surgery. I have not had my initial consult with Dr. Thoburn's office yet but plan on going prepared to it. Don't give up hope, I know I can't and I have the insurance company from HELL (BC/BSFL Health Options HMO). So if there is hope for me there must be for you. Keep the faith. I'll be thinking of you in my prayers. Marilyn Jax, FL
