I had elevated LFT's for a couple years preop. After seeing a GI specialist to rule out any liver disease (ultrasound, etc.) they ruled it fatty liver and since I wasn't sick, they didn't bother to confirm with a biopsy. The ultrasound results were consistent with fatty liver. This is common in obese indivuals. My PCP then took over my LFT monitoring (bloodwork every 6 months) and it never lowered, actually climbed a little but was consistent overall. Dr. Haicken's office never mentioned it and my insurance never mentioned it, so it wasn't a problem for me. I imagine if it's the first time it's showed up in your bloodwork they'll want to rule out any other problems (they usually test for hepatitis a, b, and c as well as doing an ultrasound and monitoring your blood LFT levels). Good luck.
