Hi my name is Joanne and i am wondering if any body had to have a year of med supervice diet by their doctor before their insurance would consider you for wls ? I really want to have this surgery ,my bmi is 41 and i have diabetes and high cholesterol . If this surgery helps me in the long run why do they want a dr to tell them that a have done all kinds of diets just not thru my dr. Any advice for me will help ,Thanks Joanne

It depends on what insurance company you have. I have Aetna and they require 6 month doc. supervised diets, so I saw a nutritionist for 6 months before my surgeons office would submit to Aetna. Now im waiting for approval, its been 3 long weeks of waiting....
