Anyone have any luck with approval from BC & BC of Florida- Health Options? When I was at the meeting with Dr Grossbard he stated that they were coming to observe the procedure. I am very interested in having it done but am unable to pay for it up front. Any information would be helpful. Thanks

I know tons of people here locally in my wls support group who successfully were approved by BCBS-FL (HO). Most of the time they require more evidence of medical necessity, but a lot of people have gotten approved. BCBS and Aetna are the ones who usually require a pretty long dr. supervised diet history... but I heard at the meeting the other night that Weigh****chers cards were valid as well. Good Luck.

I am unsure of the Health Options program but I have BCBS of FL and intially they gave me the run around and refused to approve me for this procedure. BCBS of FL was dening a lot of people here recently based on a billing code. Check with your doctor to find out what code he bills the insurance company under and then find out what code your insurance company covers. When I called BCBS the told me that they are not at liberty to discuss the billing codes with customers, however, I went to an out of state BCBS company and got the procedure codes there. When I told them that these codes were available online, their story changed and shortly thereafter, I was approved. Good Luck. I am scheduled for surgery on Monday 09/29/2003.
