Have you considered the DS?

I second that.  Check out the Duodenal Switch board.  You won't find a single regret.  And it can be more effective than RNY.

Why do you think the DS more effective than the RNY?

Thanks.

While RNY can be very effective, many studies indicate the DS has a greater total weight loss with less chance of regain.  I believe a few studies indicate that the remission rate for diabetes is also higher.

Don't forget the VSG too...all are good options but only you can decide which is best for you specifically. I suggest doing some research on each and look at the pros/cons, read the boards for each surgery - especially posts from post-ops who are at least a year out, talk to your doctors and see what fits for you. For me it was VSG, for others its RNY, Band or DS.

Read through the boards for each surgery, and definitely research! It is a big decision and only you can decide which is right. Dont be afarid to ask anyone questions here. I opted for RNY because it was covered by my insurance and it seemed like it would have a better effect on my diabetes! I no longer take any of the medications for my health problems before surgery. I went to a couple of different seminars and to a couple of support groups prior to making my decision. There really is no wrong decision. Good Luck, I am sure you will be successful with ahtever you choose. Remember it is not just the surgergy, the lifestyle change it brings is a commitment to your health!

Best of Luck on your journey,
Ed
