OT: Moving to the Tampa area

Hi everyone -  I currently live in Boston, MA but will be moving to the Tampa area as of September 1st.   I wanted to get some opinions and thoughts.   Right now we're considering living with in Tampa or in St Petersburg.      If anyone is from the area could you tell me which area you prefer?  Why?  Which do you consider more kid safe?   Are there neighborhood names I should be looking for?    We're moving fairly blind and do not know the neighborhood areas at all.  I'll be working from home but my husband will be commuting by bus or subway to where ever he locates work. 

Ok I live in tampa now in Temple Terrace there's no subways here there are buses. I would say to find out where your husband is working and find a place close to that.  The traffic down here is crazy and anyway you can cut down on your commute is great.  If you want a nice area Brandon and Tampa palms are very nice areas. Sorry I can't help you with st pete.  If you go to http://www.tbo.com you can look into the tampa area. Let me know if you have any quesitons. Do you have an apt or house in mind?

Thank you Azucar! .. for the info and the website.  Unfortunately we wont know where my hubby is working until we're down there probably.    However his children (the reason we're moving) are currently living in St. Petersburg.   It does appear that the Tampa area has some nicer places at a lower cost though.   I'll check out the website.  :) Thanks again!

I work in Tampa and live in Clearwater.  You might find that this area gives you the most for your money because it's central to Tampa and to St. Pete - a bridge to Tampa or a bridge to St. Pete.  I lived in Tampa many years and grew to hate it.  Once I moved to Clearwater I was much happier.  It's the energy.  You might also try Largo which is closer to St. Pete, but still central.   Best of luck in your move.  Leave your winter clothes in Boston - LOL!
