...with psychologist and other requirements for approval?  The 600/800 questions is about......?   What is the insurance companies trying to find out in order to deny or put off approval?  Just curious...thanks

The psych eval is to determine that you have no pre-existing untreated psych problems or eating disorders that would keep you from being successful with the surgery.  It is also to determine that you fully understand the surgery and the post-op requirements.  They want to know that you are truly capable of giving informed consent.  The questionnaire that has been mentioned is usually the MMPI  -2 and it is a standard assessment tool to help identify personal, social or behavioral problem areas. the psych eval determines if you are depressed or if you have markers to be depressed. being depressed will not keep you from getting the surgery, the Drs just want to make sure if you will need extra follow up. My psych eval asked me true/false questions like "people follow me" or "I want to work in a library" and all sorts of crazy things. The nutrionist wants to go over past diet attempts and make sure you understand eating restrictions and portions. I don't think anyone is out to prevent you from having surgery, they just need to make sure you are aware of what you are doing and they want to make sure you are successful. I also had an abdominal ultrasound to look at my gallbladder and a chest x-ray to check my lungs. Good luck to you!!!
