In order for any Medicaid HMO to approve anything having to do with weight loss surgery you have to have at least one years worth of documented doctor or nutritionist supervised weightloss attempts. You also have to have 2 out of any obesity related diseases like high blood pressure high cholesterol diabetes etc. So if you do not, talk to your doctor about natural weight loss what can he/she do to help. Do what they say its ok to loose some weight, it is to show that you can't keep it off or that you cant loose the amount needed to completely get rid of the underlying problems. Go to all the specialist they want you to go to. Its not easy but its do-a-ble trust me.

Hi all,

Does anyone know which HMO plan for Medicaid has the best approval rate for WLS?  Right now I am on Molina Healthcare, but I still have time to change that if necessary.  Any help would be greatly appreciated :)

I am on Medicaid I selected Medipass because I was told by the doctor office it was the easiest for approval.   I would suggest that you call the doctors office you plan on using for wls and ask them. also ask what the insurance requires for approval and start collecting all of the things and have them faxed to the office so you'll be ahead of the game.(keep copies of everything) Also visit your primary doctor you'll need a monthly weight check in for most insurances. get your medical records together start making your case for surgery. hope this helps

Hi,  I did find a surgeon.... Dr. Sosa is my surgeon and he does accept Molina but I was told by one of the girls that works there that Medipass was better so I switched since I still had time.  I am waiting for my lab results in order to submit my papers to insurance.... so I will keep you guys posted through my blog :)  Good luck!
