Hi Debra, I had my surgery last August 2.  At my 3 week post op appointment I had lost 25 lbs.  Now 13 1/2 months post op I am down 116 lbs.  Get ready for a ride, if you experience anything like I did my body changed so fast my head still hasn't caught up.  Good luck and Best Wishes.

Hi Jadedize, Thank you, it sounds like your off to a great start!!!!  As for me and exercising, I am not your typical post op.  Prior to surgery, I had severe bilateral arthritis of my knees, walking period was difficult.  Not to mention I have a very bad back too, 8 knee surgeries and 2 back surgeries.  With that being said my exercise for the first 10 months was slim to none.  I would move around as much as possible but just couldn't do much.  Well on April 17th 2007 I had my right knee replaced and things are much better.  Over the last 2 months I have started walking on a regular basis and even riding my bike a couple times a week.  I just have to listen to my body regarding pain. I would say once your doctor clears you to exercise, you would be good to go.   Good Luck and Best Wishes.

Hey Debra! I think that's great!  You are doing a lot better than I did! At 2 weeks I only JUST had finally gotten off the 15 pounds of water weight that I gained in the hospital. And even now... I am 5 weeks post op today... I have only lost 15 pounds from the weight I was when I was admitted to the hospital. I know that I had lost a good amount the 2 weeks prior due to the pre op diet and the bowel prep the night before though. So it's very slow for me. I'm not concerned though... I'm already down a whole size. I am exercising a lot and I KNOW I am smaller. Like you.. I refuse to be obsessed with the scales. We know we are losing and will continue to lose. We need to be concentrating more on getting our protein, fluids and exercise in.

Thank you so much for this post. I went to my doctor last friday and he was upset because I did not lose enough in his mind. I had the surgery on 07/24 and only lost 44 lbs. so he cut my food. I thought 44lbs was pretty good for only 56 days. but maybe I am nuts.

Debra, that's nearly a lb. a day!  That's great, plus your job is not to lose weight at this point, but only to heal as you're only a week out.  Just like it's bad to obsess over the scale as you said, it's also not a great idea to compare your loss to others, but I understand the temptation. You should be pleased, you're doing just great!  Congratulations!!!

Debra I completely agree with Jan! I hate to go against what your surgeon says but I KNOW it is MUCH more important for us to be concentrating on our protein. fluid and exercise than to be watching the scales. The weight WILL come off without us even thinking about it. And some of us are slower losers than others. I certainly have not lost a pound a day like you have so you're doing terrific!!

Hey Debra!  Congratulations! I have to admit I do weight myself every day. I don't really get crazy over the scales because I DO know that they are not indicitive of success. My clothes and how wonderful I feel are a much better gauge for me. But I do have fun keeping track.  Here's a little chart of how my weight loss has gone since I began my WLS journey in August of '06.
