Hi...Just wanted to post this here on the Florida forum.  This message is from Dr. Jawad @ Bariatric and Laparoscopy Center of Ocala.

Dr. Jawad wants patients to be aware of a new option for those who struggle after Gastric Bypass.  It's a new procedure they are going to be offering at the office.  This is mainly for GB patients that STOP LOSING WEIGHT.....(assuming that they are compliant with the post-op guidelines.)

I had this in June with a doctor from the Borland-Groover Clinic here in Jacksonville, FL. My surgeon, Steve Webb referred me out to them. It was easy, relatively painless and done in less than an hour. Two weeks after procedure, I was pretty much on liquids and soft solids. Almost like "square one" with RnY surgery.
I am glad someone else in FLA is offering it.

Thank you for posting this.. I live in Jacksonvile, Florida . Can someone please tell me the name of the Dr. at Boorland and Groover clinic that does the " Endoscopic Sclerotherapy. I do not need a referral with my insurance, so I can just go in for a consultation.. I just need to know the Dr.'s name.     THANKS IN ADVANCED.

Wow, thank you so much for the response ! Can you tell me a little more about what you experienced with this procedure.

Was there a weight regain requirement, or anything like that ?

There was no requirement that I know of.   I stopped losing weight at 9 months post-op, my surgeon ordered an endoscope with Dr. Misra.  Before Dr Misra did the endoscopy, we talked about what he could do if he found that my stoma was enlarged.  I agreed with the procedure and to the exam.  When I woke up, he had photos of my pouch, staple line, and my stoma.   A stoma should be about the size of a dime, mine was the size of a quarter.  So he had photos of where he injected the acid and sent me home.

Upon home, I felt like I had a new pouch.  I was on liquids for about a week, soft foods for another week then back to a regular eating plan.

I lost another 25lbs, but never really lost to goal.   There are NO guarantees.

I am actually seeing Dr. Misra next week for my "Every 5 yrs Colonoscopy."  Yipee me....HA.

My understanding is that this procedure has been around for a while, has a proven track record, is usually covered by insurance and is VERY affordable!!

Best to check out the details on Dr. Jawad's site, but basically it's an endoscopic procedure where an agent that creates scar tissue is applied on the stoma to decrease its size.  That's a very simple explanation.

Ok--let me do the best I can in layman's terms. Since I've actually had the procedure--I feel comfortable doing this
This procedure is done via an endoscopy.
The doctor locates your stoma---measures it then proceeds to inject acid (sodium morthate) into the tissue of the stoma in a circular pattern. The acid causes scarring of the stoma, thus "shrinking" it. This is the same theory for varicose veins ----close them up using schlerotherapy or "scaring"
There are risks associated with this therapy----failure, bleeding, perforation, tearing etc.. As with any surgery, there are risks. I had mine done a month ago, and my doctor told me he can do it twice. He doesn't like to do it more than that, since it weakens the tissue. Remember scar tissue is weaker than normal.
