Surgery scheduled for July 24th    with Dr. Kim at U.S. Bariatrics I was going for the lap-band, but now I'm also considering the gastric sleeve (can't decide if I want a band or a banana I'm going down to Celebrations Hospital this afternoon for the chest x-ray and EKG, Jennifer at U.S. Bariatrics suggested I stay for the Information Session and the Support Group meeting afterwards - give me a chance to hear all the information again (not that I haven't been studying it on my own) and talked to others who have been through all 3 procedures - maybe that would help be decide.

My "vacation" itinerary July 17 - early a.m. blood work; nutrition counseling, exercise counseling and metabolic test - U.S. Bariatrics  (ooh, that's my son's 30th birthday) July 20 - pre-op with Dr. Kim July 24 - surgery day July 25 - 29 - rest and relax July 30 - back to work (hopefully) - desk job OMG - just think, up to about 5 months ago I've never heard of the lap-band.  Well, this has been just like the other life-changing decisions that I have made - the situation has been presented to me or has come to my mind, I examined the situtation, made my mind up and ran with it - never looking back!  And so far everything has come out for the good and were the best decisions I've ever made - so the decision to have WLS will turn out to be just as wonderful!!! Thanks for all the information presented on the OH web-site and these boards. To the best of the best

Oh, why didn't you say hello - I would of enjoyed meeting you. Did you go to the information session or the support group or both?  What do you think? Did You learn anything?  I'm not sure that I did! In the support group  I was hoping to hear more about other's experiences, not question and answer with Dr. Kim. I still haven't decided! Take care!

OMG, Pattilyn, that's fantastic!!  How exciting!!!  It's great that you were able to get a surgery date so quickly.  Interesting that you're considering the sleeve.  It was mentioned to me, too, but I'm pretty set on the band at this point.  Maybe I'll change my mind after I actually meet with some folks.  LOL.  I'll be interested to see what you learn from the group.   Keep us posted!  Congrats on your date!!

I know, I was pleasantly surprised about the quick date.  I was wanting to have it by the end of July - so I'm very glad and excited.  I really didn't learn anything new from the group, or at least anything that would help with my decision - it turns out everyone there last night were either new or had the RNY - just my luck . I did learn how dedicated Dr. Kim is - to bariatric surgery and the fight against obesity! LOL - I know what you mean, yesterday was really my first time actually meeting with WLS "experts" and it was a short and sweet!  I'm looking forward to next Tuesday for the pre-op classes. Thanks!

I would have gone up to you but I seriously did not think it was you.  I would have felt funny walking up to someone that might have not been the correct person.  Have you made a final decision on the type of surgery you are going to get?  If you ever want to get together I think we do not live to far from each other, so just let me know are we can talk.  Take care.  -Eli B

I know what you mean about not being sure and not wanting to seem foolish. No, no final decision yet but leaning toward the sleeve - once it's done it's done - no fills or adjustments.  I was also thinking this morning that since I'm self pay and, God forbid, something goes wrong with the band and I have to have it removed I guess I'll have to pay for that out of my pocket also.  I guess I'll keep studying and then talk to Dr. Kim next Friday at my pre-op appointment. I know I would like to go down to Celebrations from time to time for the support groups.  Plus have you ever heard of the group TOPS, they meet weekly over in Longwood.  My neighbor, Tami -who had her RNY 2 years ago-goes whenever she doesn't have to work.  There's a small membership and only a few have had WLS surgery but everyone has weight loss issues so I think that would be a good alternative support group - closer to home.  I'm planning on going next week, if you want to tag along that would be great.  I live on the Casselberry edge of Winter Park. Hope you have a great weekend!

So glad you have a date.  That was quick,  have you made up your mind of what procedure your going to have.  My insurance will not cover the sleeve not enough data, as the Dr. says.  Im going to have LAP gastric bypass.  I was also at the support group last night.  I was sitting in front of Eli and I believe you were sitting behind the lady in the blue jacket.  Anyway maybe next time we can meet.  However you will have already had your surgery.. Are you a cash pay.  Your approval sure went fast.  I guess if you use insurance it takes so much longer.   Oh well I guess I've waited this long a little longer won't matter. I hope all goes well for your surgery and wish you a speedy recovery. Keep us posted. Niece
