UNITED HEALTH {STATE EMPLOYEES}

Anyone know about this one? I have a co-worker that has this and was wondering does it cover lap-band or WLS? I told him I didnt know but would post to find out. Can anyone help me with this question? becky

Depends on whether the state has opted for it to be a covered service. Have your friend contact the benefits coordinator in his Human Resources dept. They should be able to tell him if it is covered or not.

I am also a state employee and found myself in the same situation last year. United Healthcare does not cover WLS at all. I recommend he change to AvMed at open enrollment (check to make sure the plan hasn't changed first). AvMed covers WLS if it is determined medically necessary. He can use the rest of this year to work on meeting the requirements for AvMed. This is the route I took and was approved by AvMed in less than a week. My surgery is scheduled for 4/23/07.
