Anyone taking Byetta?
I'm diabetic and a new medication came out in the market for people with diabetes taking Metformin (Glucophage). Byetta is an injectible pen that makes you lose weight and reduce some anxiety while controlling your glucose at a low level. But, I need to know if anyone is taking this med.
Lol, Andrea (leyva29)

My husband has been on byetta for about two months. He is not a pre-op, nor post-op. He has not lost any weight nor have I noticed anything different about his moods since starting the medication. However, he does seem to be in better control of his diabetes since starting the medication. There is a gentleman who posts on the DS board who lost I think it was about sixty pounds taking the byetta. He started the byetta while battling his insurance company and then by the time he got the insurance thing straightened out he no longer weighed enough to qualify for his surgery. But the last I heard the weight was starting to creep back up.
I don't know if this is the kind of information for which you were looking but I hope this helps.

Hi Red Haired, thanks for the information. I heard the big side effect when you start taking the Byetta is that you constantly have headaches at least the first couple of months. I used to feel dizzy but I'm kind of getting used the medication already. Did your husband have those side effects? Anyways, I've lost 16 lbs already since I started my diet at the beginning of February. I'm supposed to weight myself this week. I hope I have lost some more. Also, I'm losing weight slowly or normal with the diet. But, my diabetes is pretty mu*****ontrol. My diabetes has been in 104 or lower at times.
I was also denied wls by my insurance because it is excluded from my insurance. And, I'm not going to wait till next year to change insurance and get worst with my diabetes. So, I've decided to struggle on my own. I'm about 40 lbs away to take me out of wls.
I'm glad your husband is doing better.

Andrea-
Congratulations for getting your diabetes under control and for losing 16 pounds. That is wonderful. Yes, DH did have some headaches and weird symptoms the first few weeks he was on the byetta. But all of that seems to have passed now. Good luck with the diet and with getting new insurance. I, too had some insurance issues so, I can understand your frustration. But thankfully it all worked out for me. I hope it works out for you too. Good luck.

Hi Rocko,
Interesting! Do you take your pills? I take Metformin following with Byetta. My doctor told me i would shred the weight. So far i've been losing the weight moderate. If i exercise daily i bet i would lose faster.
Maybe the pills that you're taking is not letting you lose weight with Byetta. Keep me posted!!
Lol.........

Thanks for replying red,
My headaches are finally going away, thank God for that!!!!! As far as dieting, it is going well for me. I had to make a choice wether i wait to switch insurance or do this weight lost on my own. And, maybe this was a way for God to let me know this is what he's chosen for me. I believe destiny can turn your life around without you knowing it. I'm trying to make the best of it to see how far i can go. Hope your hubby is doing good. Keep me posted!!!

I also take Metformin and Lantus along with Byetta. No weight loss, but we all may have different issues with our bodies? Everybody is different. But today is my second day of my 2 week liquid diet (I'm on Optifast 800 Calories a day) I will be Banded on 3/27/07 I have adjusted my Meds to Half the Doses and this Morning my Sugar Level was 109. :_D
Stay Well,

Good for you Rocko, well at least you're maintaining your glucose at a low level. You're totally right, everyone has different bodies and metabolism. But, 800 calories a day is very little. How do you feel with only 800 calories??? well, i hope you keep doing well and continue to take care.
Lol, Andrea

I really thought I was going to be going out of my mind. But I seem to be impressing myself. I'm on Optifast, each Pre-made Shake has 160 Calories, 14g Protein, and 20 Carbs. So I drink 5 a day, and also have been consuming lots of Water. And haven't been hungry, don't get me wrong I was in the Mall this morning and walked by the Food Court, and just the smell alone, I was Salavating!!! But just kept telling myself, "Nothing is as good as Thin Feels"!!!
I've also bought some Hydroxycut Appetite Control Tabs, not sure if there even working, I mean I've tried them along with everything else out there and they didn't work before, maybe I'm just tricking myself into thinking there working?! Whatever works right?! BTW, isn't your Doctor requiring you do a liquid Diet Pre-Surgery?
