Which Doc to Choose
I am trying to decide between Dr Overcash in Ocala and Dr Webb in Jacksonville. They both have things that I like....I was all set for Dr Webb because it made sense to me that the laporoscopic was less invasive therefore safer...then I also see what Dr Overcash says with the open is quicker and less time under anesthesia which is safer.....now I am completely confused!!! I am also a little confused/concerned about why you have to join the LSWLC for $2500.00 for Dr Webb when it sounds like alot of the stuff that they do for you is stuff that the Dr's staff should handle as part of your surgery...PLEASE don't get offended if I have that wrong...it may be a really valuable service but I guess I don't understand their function. I would love to hear from any patients of these 2 Dr's and also anyone who has an opinion on any of these subjects. thanks a heap !!!
It seems like you and I are trying to make the same decision.
I just went to the LSWLC on Thursday and was a little putoff by the $2000.00 fee.
Especially since I do not live close by and can't run to Jacksonville at the drop of a hat.
I have an appointment on Monday morning with Dr. Overcash to see how I like him.
I already spoke to his office and they do not have any additional fees. They take a $300.00 deposit which is applied to whatever your insurance doesn't cover, if your insurance covers everything (thats a dream) than they'll return it. So far he will be my choice if all goes well despite the 1 hour and 45 minute drive. Also, I like the fact that me meets with you personally instead of having other people screen you.
I'm not so worried about lap versus open because I'm choosing lap band.
Have you seen Dr. Overcash yet?
Good luck
Josie
Please remember that just because you do not like a doctor doesn't mean that he is not a good doctor or that another person will not like him.
I have also read that Dr. Jawaad is an excellent doctor and his pts. love him. I know a few of his pts. and they are very happy with him but I defy you to find one of Dr. Overcash's patients that doesn't think the same of him.
I just had my surgery with Dr. Overcash on Feb. 7 and I love him! I did many hours of research and thought long and hard before I chose him as my surgeon. I have absolutely no complaints. Dr. Overcash does expect you to be committed to this process and he isn't a hand holder but he is a very good surgeon and very skilled at what he does. He also does this life saving surgery on many people that other doctors shy away from because they are too heavy, or have too high a BMI or have too many other medical problems. Dr. Overcash saved my life when my heart stopped in surgery despite my just having had a heart cath that said my heart was strong and healthy. To me He is the man!!!
As far as Dr. Webb I know several people who have had surgery with him and most all of them are very happy with him and the results of their surgery. I have heard a lot of complaints about that program fee even from the people who are happy with him as their surgeon. If you are planning to have lap band have you checked out Dr. Cywes. I know many people who have been banded by him and I went to one of his seminars. I was and still am quite impressed by him. He is in Jax. too. I think his office is in the St. Nicholas area near Memorial Hosp. and he does most of his surgery at Memorial or the Surgery Center. I would have really considered him and lap band except that my insurance does not cover lap band.
Anyway keep doing your research and trust your instincts. When you find the right man you will know it. Dr. Overcash may not be the surgeon for you but don't not go to him and check it out because someone else doesn't like him.
I am in Jacksonville too and if you would like to email me feel free to. My address is [email protected] I also go to a support group meeting every other Sat. and I know that we have pts. of Dr. Webb., Dr. Jawaad, Dr. Overcash and Dr. Cywes in our group if you'd like to come and hear their opinions just let me know.

Thanks so much everyone for your input..I really liked Dr WEbb but I am a little put off by the fee....I think that Hubby and I are just going to have to make appointments to go see both Dr's in Ocala and see what we think. I will be really honest with you...I AM a little bit of a baby and I probably need a Dr who is sensitive......I have heard really good things about BOTH Overcash and Jawad so I guess it will come down to who we make a connection with. If anyone has any info about either of these 2 that they would like to share but don't want to make a public comment please feel free to email me at [email protected] will keep anything that I am told confidential. I just noticed that under one of the Dr's comment boards that there are a few comments that people have made about knowing someone who had a complication but there has not been anything from anyone who has a complaint or complication themselves so I really don't know how much weight to give those comments...not knowing what the complication was. Thanks so much for all the help!
I just got back from an initial consult with Overcash and he is very open and honest and to the point.
I didn't get the impression that he is crude or callous , nor did I get the impression that he disregards peoples feelings, he is just blatenly honest. Frankly, that's what you pay him for. Also, my friend came with me and she just loved him.
I will be going with Dr. Overcash for those reasons along with the fact that I like the fact that I didn't have to wait weeks for seminars to sit with a group of people to hear about the surgery. This surgeon meets you PRIVATELY the first time and answers any and all of your questions. His brochur also states that he was one of the top 15 bariatric surgeons in the country according to OH
I'm sure the others are just as good or better, I'm just tired of searching and seminars and such. Eventually you have to choose.
