No Excuses!

I was surfing the internet today looking for a little inspiration. (I swear it wasn?t porn?really?no?really. I?m at work, so they block the good sites.) I found a few articles about some of the excuses people come up with to ?not? exercise.

This is just a few of them?unfortunately:

"I don't have time."

?I hate exercise.?

?I?m too tired.?

?I don?t like to sweat.?

?I have a bad back (knees, elbows, feet, etc?).?

?I?m too old.?

?Exercise will interfere with my Cocktail Hour.?

"I'll start/go back soon"

"I've been exercising, but my exercise schedule is somewhat erratic"

"I know I should, but I don't have time."

?I can?t afford a gym membership.?

?I?m too Fat (or out of shape) to join a gym.?

?I don?t have any exercise equipment.?

?I don?t know how to use the equipment in the gym.?

?I don?t know what exercises to do.?

?I just can?t get motivated.?

?Richard Simmons exercises and look what it did for him.?

?Overexertion can kill you. So why chance it??

?I?m fat and feel embarrassed.?

?Exercise is boring.?

?I?m on my feet at work all day, why exercise??

The list is endless.......

Personally, I have a really hard time understanding why people could not ?want? to exercise everyday. I?m someone that ?needs? to exercise everyday. I feel bad physically and emotionally if I don?t do something every single day. I look forward to being out in the sun and walking around the park and getting some fresh air. I relish the effort in picking up a weight I never lifted before. The best I feel about myself all day long, is right after I?ve completed a hard workout and know I?ve given 100% of myself. There is just a great satisfaction to knowing I?ve completed something I couldn?t do last week. I?ve always felt like that, not just after WLS. Ok?I?m strange, that?s a given.

My favorite excuse to not exercise is ?I?m too fat (or out of shape) to join a gym.? Exercise it not just for the beautiful people that are already in shape. Sure, some people have good genes and are just born in shape. I hate them too. But people actually think they have to get in shape to go to a gym. That?s kind of like pre-cleaning your house before the maid comes. It doesn?t make a lot of sense to me.

The ?I don?t have time to exercise,? is one I hear constantly. If you have time to do email, post on message boards, surf the Internet, play games or watch TV, you have time to go for a walk around the block. I know people that post on message boards for 3 or 4 hours a day, but tell me they don?t have time to exercise. Whatever!

Oh, the inspirations?I found some information about Kyle Maynard. I saw him competing in the Bench Press competition at the Arnold Fitness Weekend last year. He wrote a nice little book called ?No Excuses.? It?s at our local library and it?s a must read. He was born a congenital amputee, his arms ending at his elbows and his legs at his knees. Kyle earned his way onto the football team?as a hard nosed defensive lineman and triumphed as a top state wrestler in Georgia. Kyle is now wrestling at the University of Georgia and has begun training in Jiu-Jitsu and competing in the sport of submission wrestling.

What?s your excuse?
