I have a friend that ran the Broad Street. If you look on the elevation chart, it is almost totally downhill. I was like, that would be fun..lol

Maybe I need one of those Osteopathic doctors..ughhh

So long as you are exerting the same amount of effort, they are the same. 500 calories on the recumbent bike is the same as 500 calories on the treadmill. I prefer the recumbent bike because I have bad knees and it is more comfortable for my pain range.

Take the time and spend the money to meet with a personal trainer a few times to set up a plan for your workouts - chest/back day, arm day, leg day and go from there. Tell him/her your goal of the Mud Run and they can tailor a plan to make it work for you.

Good luck with the MRI! Fingers crossed for an answer to help get to healing.

Fenced a tournament I didn't plan to on Sunday and felt I fenced well despite my placement at the end of the day. Hubby ran the Broad Street Run (10 miles down Broad Street in Philadelphia) in the pouring rain. he said he enjoyed it. i don't get it.

Monday - Fencing lesson and fencing 3.5 hours

Tuesday - Cross fit class

Wednesday - Fencing lesson and fencing 3.5 hours

Thursday - personal trainer 1 hour and cross fit 1 hour

Friday - Pilates 1 hour

Saturday - Cross fit 1 hour

Sunday - Tournament - two events foil and saber. It's how I want to spend Mother's Day!

On another note - I had a visit with an Osteopathic doc who does osteopathic manipulation. For the first time in years my left knee is not a base of 7/10 for pain. I fenced Sunday with almost no pain at all. I didn't need to ice my knee when I was done. I'm not sure what he did when he was poking and pulling, but DAYUM it worked!

Thursday-swam 1500 meters..41:00

Friday-Swam 1500 meters:41:42

Saturday-RAIN...so swimming

Of course Im no expert, but your question is lacking details. Are you simply walking on a treadmill? running? using incline? etc..

on a stationary bike, how far are you going? how fast?

In my experience, only because I run, I always get a "better" workout on the treadmill even though I cant stand it, ie I burn more calories. The only issue for me is that on a treadmill, you are constantly hitting the same spot on your foot and it cause cause injuries or at least it does on me. I 1000% prefer running outside regardless.

If im just "riding" a bike, my workout isnt great because I just go and then after 20 minutes or so I get bored, however, if I take a really good spin class and I push myself, it can be draining.

So I guess what Im saying is it really depends on you.

Which is a better workout? Assuming you do the same amount of time, a treadmill or a recumbent bike?

Sadly it is impossible to spot reduce - it might just be that the weight on your legs is what will come off last.

For specifically building muscle and function in your legs, you should talk with a trainer at the gym or a physical therapist to get an exercise plan that is appropriate for your body.

And it might also be wise to talk to your doctor about your legs to rule out something like lymphedema.

Typically when I go to the gym i work on everything...i don't do a specific day for specific parts of my body. Maybe that's where I'm going wrong....
