I went to my WLS surgery meeting tonight and afterwards these two ladies stopped to compliment me on my toned arms. I told them that I just workout with videos I find on Youtube and I do a lot of pushups. This made my evening! Working out is so worth it!

It's not a contact sport per se, but I started Aikido about a year post-op. I needed to get to a point where I felt that I wouldn't injure myself and that I had a better connection with my body. I feel like it's one of those things that you'll know you're ready when you get there?

Most people wait about a year before they do major contact sports. During that year they are building up their core muscles to take the poundings that can happen from the hits. Below is one of the first WLS (Lap Band) stories that has happened with major contact. I think after his Lap Band his weight went down, but also his production as a player went down too...
Thank you! :D
My current training plan is time based actually - I'm working through the Zombies Run 5k Training plan which is always fun. But normally my training is distance based in "number of loops" in the development.
I'm planning on starting my half training plan on 11/8. I run three times a week and that gives me 18 weeks before the race. It's based on the half marathon plan from Runkeeper so I basically do two short runs and one long run a week, increasing my run:walk intervals. I'm also going to add in sprints at the end of one of my short runs each week. (Sprints will be more like fartleks.. when I get to the four-way stop before my house I'll do sprints between driveways until I get home.)
I'm excited. :D

Has anyone on this forum have the experience of resuming/starting to play contact sports after surgery? If so, what sport and how long until you felt comfortable enough to do so? Did you experience any problems in doing so?

Has anyone tried using Core Stix equipment. My Dr recommended it and the reviews look good, but I'm having trouble finding a gym that has it or people with experience using it.
