Why are so many people here against working out/exercise?

I think that's what most people would go with, 95% or even 99% diet. I think the problem is most people are over estimating the metabolic changes from the exercise that they're doing. Face it no body is really training for the Olympics here.

There are so many exercises to choose from & it could be fun. I think people got sucked into exercise as a chore instead of something they'd enjoy, its a challenge to find something you'd enjoy, but eye opening once you find what you like.

Well said Hagalicious Brown! I agree with you. If we are considering exercises as an enjoyment, then it won't be that much difficult to do.  I'm the one who loves workout and it has a great effect in my body. I wish everyone could aware of the positive effects of exercise.

There is so so many reasons why exercise is good for a person and I have read what everyone has wrote and they are all correct but here is another way of looking at why people should exercise and that is to help keep you strong and to help you with balance. I know most of my classes I take we do some balance work which is so important for when you get older so you don't end up falling and breaking a hip. We also work on posture so you don't end up walking with your back so bent over it looks like you are looking for something.  I know i have Osteopenia and they have seen an improvement from my exercise. Right there gives me a reason to get out there and do it.

I have put weight on since the surgery and I just can not seem to get it off but I hate to see where I would be if I did not exercise.

Last thing working out is a great way to meet other people and to develop some good friendships. I can't tell you how many great people I have meet in races and ran with and helped get them to the finish line and when I can help someone make it to that finish line that gives me more pleasure than crossing it myself.

For all these reasons I truly believe exercise is something we all should be doing

Quick story...I would go to the local WLS support group meetings over the years.  I noticed a few things.  Those who were at or near goal weight (even overweight, but not obese), and were a few years out, had the same things in common.  They watched (limited) their amount of simple carbs they would eat.  And they found some form of exercise/movement that worked for them!!  Not rocket science.  For your heart and for your kidneys you need some movement.  Have you ever noticed all those people who are in their 80's and working in their gardens??  Even gardening (physical) prolongs life.

Yes, I know there are many people who are limited because of medical conditions and can do very little when it comes to exercise.  But you can adapt.  You can go online and find tons of movement routines on YouTube.  If you are really limited...Look into exercise bands.  You can buy them anywhere and there are tons of programs for them on YouTube.  For 95-98% of people there is no excuse.  Not being mean...But really no excuse.  If necessary ask your doctor for a reference to a physical therapist...And work at it.  Brian

This is what I have noticed too. The people who are at a healthy weight and have stayed at that weight all made exercise a part of their lives. Whether it's running, walking, kayaking or playing a sport it seems to be very helpful in long term success.

I personally find eating healthy to be much easier when I am exercising. My body feels great and seems to crave healthy foods instead of junk. I think with myself, exercise is going to be key in keeping off my weight.

I completely agree. When I am exercising I crave lean proteins and veggies! When I eat healthy, I have the energy and  desire to exercise,

I use resistance bands in almost every one of my workouts. Love them.

I think some of the resistance comes from people just not having a background in physical activity. People think working out means slogging away at the gym on some boring machine for 2 hours every day and watching people who look like underwear models not even break into a sweat. So, if they feel like they don't HAVE to do it they won't. But exercise has so many more benefits besides weight loss. Not only does it keep you from having that melty I had WLS and now I'm skinny-fat look, it builds muscle that cushions your joints and strengthens your bones, builds your endurance, boosts your energy, and gives you a sense of accomplishment.

Would like to share a story about a man on the Men's Forum from many years back.  I don't remember his name...But his story really touched me and most of the men on that forum.

You see there was this pond...Not a very big pond.  It was about 1/4 mile around.  The guy had this desire to walk around that pond.  My goal and your goals are different...His goal was different.  He was morbidly obese...Maybe 400-600 pounds.  He had his WLS and started losing quickly.  Before he would have to ride around Walmart in a cart.  Soon he was doing part walking, part riding.  As the weight came off he started taking on his driveway.  He would walk 1/2 the driveway...Then back home.  He finally was able to walk to the end of the driveway (probably with a cane) and get his mail.

Then came the pond...Many if not most obese people don't think much of a 1/4 mile pond...But to him it was a marathon...His marathon!!  He started walking it...Got a 1/3 way around it, then had to go back.  He pushed and pushed till one day he made it completely around the pond.  This brother had more guts in him that 1/2 the people who can find any and all excuses not to try.  Not to put 1 foot in front of the other and see what happens.  Just writing this brings me to tears...Again your goals and my goals are different.  The idea is to get healthy.  Even with his weight, he kept his eye on the prize.  How about you??
