Bike riding and an asleep butt

So, is the only way to not make your butt fall asleep biking is to get those special pants with the extra padding? I think my seat on my bike is a good one - not too tiny.

Yeah I found I needed to get off and walk the blood back to my but after 15 miles. I just got myself some shorts. I'm supposed to ride 20 miles today. I'll let you know.

I ride quite often & the extra padding in shorts does help. You might want to look into getting a seat with more gel padding & is a little bigger, the seats that normally come with the bike are usually harder, if you don't want to buy a seat look into getting a seat cover with the gel in it that you can put on top of the seat. I bought one on Amazon, every little bit helps.

edited to add: Try alternating your ride by standing up a little like when you're going up a hill, not sitting the entire time while riding helps blood flow back in there.

OK I rode for 2 hours today and did 31 miles. I stopped after the first hourwalked around for about a min and stretched a little. Then I got back on and road the rest. I did have the but pad shorts on. I think it helped.

I have a 50 mile ride coming up, so I hope I'll be ready.

What kind of bike and what kind of seat?  Your seat actually can be 2 big and cause issue.  When you sit correctly on a bike you should actually contact the seat as little as possible, you have sit bones which on a well fit bike and seat will be the 2 points of contact.

i ask what type of bike because if it is a quality bike or a performance bike it will be worth shelling out for a custom fit and a new seat.  If it is a Walmart style then it may be worth it to look at a higher quality bike from a LBS.

This is the bike- I got this bike also because the seat was larger with the springs in the back but about 20 min in and my butt is asleep.

I had a similar style bike from Electra, and that style seat make my but and lady parts go to sleep.  I've read, though as a larger person find it hard to believe that a smaller seat might be the ticket.  I've not gone up to the bike store and asked about this but I do know they'd have the answer, they'll have a lot of seats and be able to talk to you about what your looking for.  While some of these seats can be $100 I also believe that if you can't ride the bike more than 20mins you'll probably park it in the garage and stop going, so maybe the extra money on the seat will give you mean years of use and bike riding healthy fun.
