Yoga is HARD!
So, I've been struggling to find some sort of exercise that I like to do on a regular basis. I tried yoga today by doing the first video in the Yoga with Adriene 30 day Yoga challenge on YouTube. It was very basic, and only 30 minutes long.
My muscles are all still like jello. It was hard, and I'm positive that I didn't do everything right, but I have to say that it felt GOOD. I was shaking and sweating at the end of the routine, and the stretching felt awesome. I'm excited to do day 2 tomorrow.
Anyone else do yoga? Any tips?
Now that you think you like it, can you take a few classes with an instructor to make sure you've got the positions correct and are not likely to cause injury.
It is hard, I worked up a sweat too, which surprised me.
Enjoy.

you can take classes ,it opened up my world. The yoga gave the lightest of nudges to correct my posture, helped my breathing, and everything clicked. I burned where I was supposed to burn, felt the right tension in the right spots, and generally helped me feel what yoga was actually supposed to feel like. A few classes later and I'm able to go once or twice a month to the studio for more guidance, and I can study yoga alone the other days with videos and I know what I should strive for. Now I love yoga for so much more than improving my flexibility. Keep doing it
Hi Deanna,
Love yoga!
I took my very first yoga class 6 months ago and I am hooked! I usually go to a studio for group classes and have had some private lessons which was immensely helpful. However, I do like the Adrienne you tube videos as well.
I haven't done a full class of hers but I have looked at a bazillion of her shorter videos (5ish minutes) on how to do specific poses. She provides a lot of great detail in her videos and makes comments that are very similar like you would get in a class. The only thing that is missing is that she can't adjust you personally!
Also, if you were in a class, something that you would hear over and over and over is that there is no need to try to compare yourself to others. You are fine just the way you are! So, no worries if you didn't do everything right....everyone is just trying to improve, no matter where they are in skill.
I have been thrilled with increase in strength, flexibility and balance. Does that mean I am really good at it? NO! But, it is also good at teaching you to be satisfied with yourself as you currently exist. Also, it has been helpful in body awareness so that I am more comfortable in my own skin and fewer issues with body dysmorphia.
So keep working at it even if you need to give yourself a day off to recover. We need more yogis around :)

I did day 2 the next day, and really enjoyed it. I slipped day 3 last night because of scheduling issues, but I'll pick back up tonight.
My abs are so sore, but I really enjoy it. I may eventually take a class, but at this point I'm looking for something I can do at home after I get the kids in bed.
I do yoga every day, I love it. I recommend getting to a real class so you can get modifications and adjustments from an instructor. Once you get a good basis, it's easier to do it at home on your own.
